Raag Yaman Kalyan in Gurbani Kirtan
While you are listening to kirtan video clips with English Transliterations, you might want to identify the particular raag in which it's being sung.
The professional musicians will always attempt to sing the shabad in the prescribed raag. But most amateurs could sing the shabad in any raag which they feel comfortable.
During this learning process, that I'm attempting to take you through, other music clips of the same raag will be provided for you to identify this raag from the similarities.
These short lessons are good for both adults and children and especially beneficial to those who want to learn how to play the harmonium by hearing it.
This is raag Kalyan. While you listen to it, below the meanings of the shabad :

Shabad Transliteration:
Gaurhee Guru Amar Das
mil maerae preethamaa jeeo thudhh bin kharee nimaanee ||
Meet me, O my Dear Beloved. Without You, I am totally dishonored.
mai nainee needh n aavai jeeo bhaavai ann n paanee ||
Sleep does not come to my eyes, and I have no desire for food or water.
paanee ann n bhaavai mareeai haavai bin pir kio sukh paaeeai ||
I have no desire for food or water, and I am dying from the pain of separation. Without my Husband Lord, how can I find peace?
gur aagai karo binanthee jae gur bhaavai jio milai thivai milaaeeai ||
I offer my prayers to the Guru; if it pleases the Guru, He shall unite me with Himself.
aapae mael leae sukhadhaathaa aap miliaa ghar aaeae ||
The Giver of peace has united me with Himself; He Himself has come to my home to meet me.
naanak kaaman sadhaa suhaagan naa pir marai n jaaeae ||4||2||
O Nanak, the soul-bride is the everlasting Lord's wife; her Husband Lord never dies and He shall never leave. ||4||2||
Explanations on Raag Kalyan for beginners (text) : Raga Kalyan - we shall use the name interchangeably with Yaman. As the preeminent night-time Raga, Yaman embodies considerable gravitas. No other Raga has cut so wide a swathe across all genres of music and no other Raga has purchased so viselike a hold on the Indian's thoughts and feelings. Every child embarking on a preliminary study of classical music brings with her a working familiarity of Kalyan obtained through folk and other sources. Yaman has come to be acknowledged as the touchstone among classical musicians in calibrating a peer's quality and depth, its mastery deemed a sine qua non for any serious student. The magnitude and extent of Yaman's reach impel us to offer here a substantial listening experience both in the realm of the 'light' and the classical. In the posse of clips that follows, the Yaman and Yaman Kalyan instances are commingled.
Other Videos/Audio on same raga :

Sajan tere charan ki
Gun naad dhun anad bhed
Har jee mata har ji pita
