Peshawar/Islamabad: Two Sikhs who were kidnapped over a month back have been beheaded by the Pakistani Taliban in the country's restive tribal belt in a brutal act by the militants.

According to uncofirmed reports, the Taliban had dumped the heads of the two victims at a Gurudwara in Peshawar.

Some more members of the minority community are still in the custody of the rebels. The body of Jaspal Singh was found in the Khyber tribal region, located a short distance from the provincial capital of Peshawar, while the body of Mahal Singh was found in the Aurakzai Agency, sources told PTI on Sunday night.

There was confusion about the total number of Sikhs who were kidnapped for ransom from the Bara area of Khyber Agency by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. A source said four Sikhs were abducted while another report said the total number of kidnapped persons was six.

The Sikhs were kidnapped 34 days ago and the Taliban had demanded Rs 30 million as ransom for their release. Two of the kidnapped Sikhs were beheaded after the expiry of the deadline for the payment of the ransom, sources said.

Gurvinder Singh and Gurjit Singh are still in the custody of the militants, sources said. The kidnapping occurred in an area where there the government has virtually no control and the militants are in a dominant position, sources said.

A sizeable number of Sikhs lived in the tribal belt, particularly Aurakzai Agency, till the Taliban imposed jiziya or religious tax on them last year. Most members of the community then fled to cities across Pakistan.

An estimated 10,000 Sikhs live in the NWFP and tribal areas, descendants of those who chose not to move to India during the partition in 1947.

In 2009, the Taliban in Pakistan s North West Frontier Province (NWFP) forced the minority Sikh population to pay it lakhs of rupees as religious tax.

The Sikh community has been facing an uncertain future after fleeing fighting between security forces and the Taliban.

May the souls of the slain innocent Sikh Brothers rest in peace. The almighty alone knows when will these barbaric activities fueled by hatred and intolerance end. I pray the almighty to bless and defend the innocents in the tribal region who are under the grip of the hatred filled inhuman beasts.

Taliban is no one's friend, atleast not the Sikhs .

Few minutes back Zee News Uttar Pradesh interviewed Makkar and Sarna.

Makkar said the Pak govt may not be in control of the situation and that even their own(muslims) people were being killed so something should be done.SGPC might send a delegation to the "effected areas" to know the situation.Further he said the various govts only believe in reaction after some thing has been done.He criticized the Taliban and called for strict action against it.

Sarna also severely criticized the Taliban and said that nobody is safe there .He went further to suggest that Taliban problem has become an international problem and that India,Pak,Afghanistan and USA should build a combined force to take on the Taliban as Taliban was killing so many innocents including Muslims also daily. He said it is a humanitarian issue. He said if some assistance is required from Delhi committee it is ready to help.Sarna said SGPC delegation might go to Nankana Sahib and Lahore where Sikhs are living properly but that delegation may not be able to visit Taliban areas for which a special permit is required.

CNN IBN is very quick to call people in Pakistan when some problem occurs between India and Pakistan but it should have done the same as soon as it got this news.It should have called Hamid Mir who is a reputed Pakistani journalist of Geo TV to know the exact situation.

What is coming out from various sources is that 2 Sikhs Jaspal Singh and Mehal Singh have been killed and atleast 3 or more Sikhs are in Taliban custody.

May their souls rest in peace and hope Waheguru gives strength to those in custody of Taliban and their family members including those of the deceased strength to overcome this assault on our community.

The Sikh kaum's situation is like that of being between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Syanay nu ishaara hee kaafi hai.

The Taliban has to be taken out completly - no if's, and's, or but's about it. The same way a strong dose of a strong antibiotic is needed to clear out a pervasive bacterial infection. Too light a dose and the resisters only become more resistant. And that is exactly what happened when a government free zone for the Taliban was created last year. They did not go away.

But political interests being what they are, it has been next to impossible to face this unpleasant reality. Of course one makes enemies by choosing a tough stand over appeasement. But what other choices are there? Thus we see what we see and we get what we get.

Yes, peace and blessings of Waheguru to the victims' families, and to all the brothers and sisters who are looking at a bleak future.

Taliban Beheads 2 Sikhs in Pakistan

A Muhammad and Rezaul H Laskar/ Peshawar/Islamabad | Feb 21, 2010

Two Sikhs who were kidnapped for ransom were found beheaded by the Pakistani Taliban in the country's restive tribal belt in yet another brutal act by the militants.

Some more members of the minority community are still in the custody of the rebels.

The body of Jaspal Singh was found in the Khyber tribal region, located a short distance from the provincial capital of Peshawar, while the body of Mahal Singh was found in the Aurakzai Agency, sources told PTI tonight.

There was some confusion about the total number of Sikhs who were kidnapped for ransom from the Bara area of Khyber Agency by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.

According to a North West Frontier Province(NWFP) minister Bashir Ahmed, three Sikhs having business in Federally Administered Tribal Areas(FATA) were kidnapped by Taliban and one of them was "slaughtered" by them. "They (Taliban) sent his body to Peshawar," he said.

Gurvinder Singh and Gurjit Singh are still in the custody of the militants, sources said.

The kidnapping occurred in an area where there the government has virtually no control and the militants are in a dominant position, sources said.

An estimated 10,000 Sikhs lived in the NWFP and in the tribal belt, particularly Aurakzai Agency, till the Taliban imposed ‘jiziya’ or religious tax on them last year. Most members of the community then fled to cities across Pakistan.

Brig Mehmood Shah, a former security secretary of FATA, described the Taliban act as horrendous and said it must be condemned in the strongest terms.

A letter, found with Jaspal's body, warned his relatives and other Sikh locals against disclosing the case to the media, the dawn news reported.

It said the minority faced threats of suicide attacks if the details of the beheading and kidnapping were revealed to the media or security forces.

Government Shocked

The reports from Pakistan have been received with shock in New Delhi but there was no immediate comment by the government which was ascertaining the details.

"We are aware of these media reports. If it is true then it's a matter of shock. We are ascertaining the facts," official sources told.

According to unconfirmed reports, the Taliban had dumped the heads of the two victims at a Gurudwara in Peshawar.

An estimated 10,000 Sikhs live in the NWFP and tribal areas, descendants of those who chose not to move to India during the partition in 1947.

In 2009, the Taliban in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (NWFP) forced the minority Sikh population to pay it lakhs of rupees as religious tax.
The Sikh community has been facing an uncertain future after fleeing fighting between security forces and the Taliban.

SGPC asks PM to act

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has strongly condemned the beheading of Sikhs in Pakistan and asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take up the matter with his counterpart in Pakistan.

SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar told PTI, "The SGPC and entire Sikh community strongly condemns the brutal murder of Sikhs at Peshawar in Pakistan by Taliban."

He asked the Prime Minister to take up the matter with Pakistan government and ask it to provide adequate security to the minority Sikh community as they were not safe in Pakistan.

He also demanded that the Prime Minister make immediate arrangements for an SGPC delegation to visit Pakistan to take stock of the situation.

Makkar said the SGPC firmly stood with the Sikhs living in Peshawar and all over Pakistan and was always ready to extend all possible help to them.

BJP says UPA is callous

BJP today strongly condemned the beheading of Sikhs and termed the attitude of Indian government in the matter as "callous" for not putting diplomatic pressure in time to get the abducted Sikhs released.

"BJP strongly condemns this dastardly massacre of minority Sikh community in Pakistan. This shows how minorities are treated with contempt in Pakistan. They were not given any security," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

He also criticised the Indian government, alleging it was being soft towards Pakistan while dealing with such matters.

"What is truly worrisome is the callous attitude of the Government of India. These Sikhs were abducted for sometime. What kind of diplomatic pressure did India bring on Pakistan to secure their release," Prasad said.

Initial reports said some Sikhs had been abducted by the Taliban in Pakistan for ransom.

While two were beheaded, some were said to be still in the custody of the Taliban.

"India has almost begged for a dialogue with Pakistan and yet is so cruelly indifferent to the barbaric terrorism being meted out to the innocent Sikh community in Pakistan," Prasad said.

Re: Pakistan Taliban beheads 3 Sikhs in Peshawar

Perhaps next they will brick up young children? The more it changes, the more it stays the same.

This is a continuation of Sikh history from almost the beginning. It is horrible - and not unexpected. I wonder if these two were given the option of converting to Islam? That is the usual pattern, I believe. To die for what you believe in is a high honour granted to few. Their families and their community can be proud of these young men.

Now...what are we going to do about it? Do we really trust the government of India to protect Sikh interests? Do we believe the crocodile tears being shed for our dead brothers by the GOI? This again brings to the fore the need for our own Sikh state.

Waheguru bless the families of the dead and those still being held.

Re: Pakistan Taliban beheads 3 Sikhs in Peshawar

Any innocent people killed is not a good thing and Muslims are famous for killing each other and other people. The sad thing is that innocent people are being killed indiscriminately by these zealots irrespective of their hue, creed or faith. They are even using young Muslim kids as suicide bombers. Let's never forget the basic Sikh tenet-Sarbhat the bhala. All are equal in the eyes of Ik Ong Kaar.

The most dangerous part is that Taliban is not a group of zealots anymore but has turned into an ideology of thugs, using Allah. Heaven and 72 virgins as baits.

So killing the innocent becomes a trophy for them, even if they belong to their own religion. All minorities, including the Sikhs have been suffering in their hands, even different sects of Islam have the same fate, which is pathetically sad and outrageous.

Re: Pakistan Taliban beheads 3 Sikhs in Peshawar

The question takes us to think as to what should sikhs do when they are having internal squabbles and the incidence like this. It is the time that we should seek the Blessings of Almighty and our Revd. Guru Sahibaan. may they keep us in Chardi kala always and give enough strength and energy to tide over these times and also give the courage to the family members of all those who must be undergoing the worst kind of anguish and pains in these hard times.

This is the testing times when the Panth is in turmoil and some individual sikhs are forced to attain the martyrdom for all of us.

Those who indulge in these activities can hardly be called as Muslims as terrorists have no religion or faith. They come like parasites and as parasites they act and that is the way they leave this world to become parasites again. They are the enemy of the entire humanity. Recently we have received a threat from some faction of Lashker that even the Golden temple is not safe and it can be attacked .Government has beefed up the security but the nefarious designs of these groups stand exposed.

A constant vigil is required by all of us.

Whaeguru Mehr kare.!

From this latest article it seems that they really could have saved their lives by converting. And they refused. Let's let the world know:

THE SIKHS ARE BACK!

Three Sikhs beheaded by Pak Taliban

http://in.news.yahoo.com/48/20100222/1248/twl-three-sikhs-beheaded-by-pak-taliban.html

Mon, Feb 22 06:08 AM

Three Sikh men were said to have been beheaded by Taliban groups in the FATA area of Pakistan and their heads sent to a gurudwara in Peshawar.

According to information available with India late this evening, one of the Sikhs has been identified as Jaspal Singh. He and his two friends were residents of Badi near Peshawar.

(Late tonight, a PTI report from Pakistan quoted sources as saying there was confusion on the exact numbers, that two men had been beheaded and others were being held hostage. It said the body of Jaspal Singh was found in Khyber while that of Mahal Singh was found in Orakzai Agency. Gurvinder Singh and Gurjit Singh, the sources said, were among those being held captive.)

The men had gone to the FATA area for some work but were held by Taliban groups who apparently asked them to convert to Islam. Sources said the information so far suggests that the men resisted the order and were then beheaded.

Later, their heads were sent to Bhai Joga Singh Gurudwara in Peshawar. The incident has shocked the small Sikh community in Peshawar.

This attack, sources said, comes in the backdrop of repeated threats to the Sikh community there to convert if they wanted to stay on. India has in the past taken up the issue of security of Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan. While the Pakistan government has been committed to providing security to minority groups, this incident has certainly made matters far more dangerous and sensitive.

The Haqqani group and factions of the Quetta Shura along with the Pakistan Taliban are active in these parts of Pakistan which border Afghanistan.

Last year, Taliban militants took over shops and homes of 35 Sikh families and arrested community leaders in Ferozkhel, Orakzai Agency.

If the repected forum members remember, in one of the threads where a Pakistan Sikh national was shown praising the PAk Govt. and the Taliban; I clearly told the author of that thread that this video clip is just a propagenda video by Pak. Govt in coluion with the local media their. But my apprehension was refuted by the author and some other members. This had come true now.
Now, pl tell me what our Sikh brethern to do even after paying huge amounts as Zaziya to Taliban. They neither can utter even a single word against Talibans nor Pak Govt. Vaisakhi, 1041 Nanakshahi (2510 CE):

Children , let me tell you about the ancient days, 500 years ago. It had been a difficult time for us Sikhs. Only about 25 years earlier, the army of India had attacked Harimandir Sahib in Amritsar - No, no, Inderjeet, this was before Khalistan had been freed and Amritsar was in the old country of India - Anyway, untold numbers were killed then and later that year, Mrs. Gandhi had been executed by us Sikhs.

This was followed by the genocide of the Sikh Quam all over India (except in Bengal, but that's another story). So it was a difficult time. There followed years of persecution in Punjab and I'm afraid many Sikhs were much disheartened, their chardi kala hibernating. Then one day in 541, a couple months before Vaisakhi, some Singhs were kidnapped by a group of Mughals called Taliban. They were offered the choice: Convert or die!

One day later, their heads were delivered to the gurudwara in Peshawar. My children, that was the beginning of the Great Rebirth of the Sikh Nation, when we all woke up, reclaimed our chardi kala and returned to being Sikhs of the Guru once more...

:happykaur:

So now we sit here in our capital each year and remember and celebrate and enjoy our great land.

I was watching and the news anchor mentioned that some of the youth have actually converted.

But i am not surprised. Muhammad himself ordered be-headings of Non-Muslims. Although Guru Gobind Singh alludes to him being a just man in Zafarnama.

And some chose death.

Even among us in Delhi, most of our family cut their hair and hid like cowards. Eleven of us (including 3 preborn children) chose otherwise. Not everyone chooses to do the right thing.

I take courage from those who do.

Are they mercenaries for hire who do operate singly? or are they only operating in groups where they motivate each other to uphold the 'principles of destruction'?

Are Islamic countries giving aid and support to them?

Just a few questions in mind.

These murders by Taliban do not absolve India, congress,RSS,BJP of what they did or trying to do to Sikhs and Sikhism in India.

Imagine what would have been the reaction of Sikhs in 1984 had the same media played the stories of atrocities on Sikhs not only during 1984 anti Sikh massacres but also the fake encounters like they are doing it today.2 lakh Sikhs have been killed in Punjab in the same manner as is being shown by the media today.

The GOI and other hindutva forces will continue to shed crocodile tears for such anti Sikh incidents both in India and Pakistan so long as every Sikh doesn't recognise that we are a seperate nation and a unique religion.Foreign countries and govts will also continue to believe that it is the internal problem of Sikhs and India and will be solved internally.

The difference between Taliban and Hindutva forces is that Taliban tries to convert by violence whereas RSS and Hindutva forces try to convert through cunning silent covert methods.
The other difference is that a lot many Sikhs particularly outside Punjab are not seeing the secret agenda of the Hindutva forces and are in fact supporting the "Hindutva Taliban" thinking it either does not exist or is less dangerous.

That is why I said that Sikhs find themselves between the devil(Taliban) and the deep blue sea(RSS/Hindutva forces).

I was the one who posted the video about "Sikhs in Pakistan" and now also Im amongst the first to condemn Taliban's brutal killing of innocent Sikhs for refusing to convert to Islam and paying jazia because I knew a lot many "dips" and "deeps" and so called "RajKhalsas"will try to take undue advantage of this and try to promote their agenda in this forum.

Taliban kills almost daily 20-30 muslims in Pakistan and I know how most Indians derive an internal happiness by saying they deserve this.

As I said earlier Taliban are no one's friends not even other muslims. These are the same descendents of moghals whose brutality Sikhs have seen earlier also in history.

Even Makkar and Sarna are not directly blaming Pak muslims :
YouTube- 2 Pak Sikhs killed by Taliban-21 February,2010

But by changing the title to "Dirty face of Islam" (or in other words pretty face of Hinduism) we are doing garave injustice to millions of muslims in India as well as Pakistan who in fact have nothing to do with Taliban and are in fact their victims.By writing such sentences we are in fact disrespecting faithful muslims like "Bhai Mardana","Peer Budhu Shaah who gave his family for Guru Gobind Singh ji","Baba Farid ji","Bhagat Kabir ji" and many others .At the same time we will be praising "Gangu,"Chandu","Lakhpat","Jaspat" and many other ancient and modern traitors of the Sikh kaum.

I wonder how many of you "deeps" and your dhoti wala masters will be willing to go to Pakistan if given the chance ?It will again be Sikhs along with Pakistani muslims who will take notice of the situation and try to do something about it.

Such stories are going around in Pakistan :
India is supporting Taliban against Pakistan says US intelligence official Pak Alert Press

I dont have anything to do with Pakistan but no one can stop me or other people from accessing such stories on the net which can not be denied altogether until some proof exists against such stories.

Sikhs should stick to "Na hum Hindu,Naa Musalmaan" as given by Guru Nanak Sahab and show to the world that we are a unique nation.

If Sikhs can not accept Islam and then how can any true Sikh willing accept the slavery of Hindutva forces ?

The hindutva forces have been further exposed in Punjab in the past few days by their anti Christian riots and attitude.Hindutva forces like Bajrang dal,Shiv sena,RSS etc have been indulging in arson and rioting against Christians in Punjab for the past few days particularly in Batala,Gurdaspur area but this time it seems the Christian youth are also bent on fighting back with force.

http://www.sikhphilosophy.net/members/kee_jaana_mein_kaun.htmlkee jaana mein kaun ji,

A quick survey shows that in the beginning, we Sikhs were under the rule of Mughals. Then we had a period of independence, followed by rule by the British. The Punjabi Sikhs have been under the subjugation of the Hindu India nation - and to a much lesser extent - the Islamic Pakistan nation since 1947.

How do these last 63 years compare to the preceding 478 years? Just a curious question. Inquiring minds want to know.
