AMRITSAR: In a major setback to Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, which is yet to get religious approval, Akal Takht, the supreme
religious body of Sikhs, on Wednesday held its president Jagdish Singh Jhinda and four others guilty of violating the Sikh code of conduct at Gurdwara Cheevin Patshashi in Kurukshetra.
The Akal Takht will announce the punishment in its next meeting to be held after November 15, Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said.
In his reaction, Jhinda, while reiterating his resolve to continue the movement for a separate gurdwara committee for Haryana, said, "We welcome the decision, but it is confusing. If they hold us guilty, they should have pronounced atonement today."
The HSGPC president, along with a faction of Sikhs from Haryana, has been accused of allegedly wresting control of the Kurukshetra-based gurdwara on September 13. The Akal Takht had asked HSGPC to submit a clarification on September 19.
