Anti-Sikh riots: HC grants bail to Sajjan Kumar - Express India

New Delhi The Delhi High Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar and six others in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots cases. Justice A K Pathak, while pronouncing the bail order, directed them to furnish a personal and surety bond of Rs 50,000 each.

The court had on February 22 reserved its order on the anticipatory bail plea of Kumar and other accused Mahendra Yadav, Brahmanand Gupta, Krishan Khokhar, Balwant Khokhar, Peru and Ved Prakash, who have been chargesheeted by the CBI.

A lower court had issued non-bailable warrants against 64-year-old Kumar and others after they failed to appear before it on summons. The politician had pleaded he was being harassed by the CBI after he had appeared before the investigating agency many times in the past but it had not then felt the need to arrest him.

The former Outer Delhi MP had reportedly gone missing since February 19, leading to suspension of his Personal Security Officer (PSO) by the Delhi Police. The CBI had on February 23 informed the court that they could not arrest Kumar as he could not be located, prompting the judge to slam the investigating agency for "not being serious in apprehending" the Congress leader.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma had earlier on February one issued summons against Kumar and 12 others after taking cognisance of the two chargesheets filed against them in the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases.

CBI had chargesheeted 12 people, including Kumar, on January 13 in two separate riot cases for allegedly making provocative speeches, leading to the killing of 12 persons in the violence that broke out following the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.

The probe agency had filed the chargesheets in the court after concluding its investigation into the cases registered on the recommendation of Nanavati Commission in 2005. The cases, in which the chargesheets were filed against Kumar and several others, were registered in police stations in Sultanpuri and Delhi Cantonment following the killing of seven and five persons respectively in the riots.

and how he immediately came out of the woodwork...when no one could locate him for a week ???
The REALITY is that He is the undisputed leader of the "Jatts/Gujjars" around Delhi who have been LOOTERS and RAIDERS since Pre-MUGHAL TIMES....so its foolhardy to "touch" him...his arrest/jailing etc may reignite another round of the same carnage as in 1984 !! 25 years is too late....imho.:8-:)

Is it a coincidence or Judges are also with congress that his bail came on budget day when the media is busy discussing budget.BTW Gyani ji sajjan kumar's influence is limited to southern Delhi earlier known as Outer Delhi After that when Haryana start's he has no influence.Never even saw his poster in Gurgaon so He is not at all undisputed leader of all jaat's .

During election time I noticed thousands of people siding with him and openly approving killings. How can Government of same party ignore thousand of people who celebrate with him for killing innocents, so this is all eye wash drama staged and I can read in between the lines, nothing will come out as the person concerned didn't do anything of its own but under pogrom set by the party. I remember when non bailable warrants of HKL Bhagats were issued, thousands of people came out in the street and he was not arrested, same thing will happed once again. I will not be susrprised if tommorrow Judges even questions and pass remarks, ' WAS THERE ANY CARNAGE'
