CHANDIGARH: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal has canceled his visit to Canada. Although the official sources attributed the unavailability of the Canadian Prime Minister around that time, when Sukhbir was scheduled to be there, the main cause is believed to be the strong opposition from a section of Sikhs to his visit to that country.

Sukhbir had sent senior party leader Balwant Singh Ramoowalia in advance to look for the arrangements there. The apparent aim was to have a feel of the situation there in the US and whether it was advisable for him to travel there are not in view of the opposition from radical Sikhs.

A strong section of the radical Sikhs has been continuously critical of the Shiromani Akali Dal leadership and it has been trying to embarrass both Sukhbir and the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal off and on. Canada has a large population of radical Sikhs opposed to Badals. They are believed to have been planning protests on Sukhbir’s arrival which led to his being advised to cancel his US trip.

There are reports that a similar complaint was filed against Sukhbir also in Canada like one filed against the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in a US Court which issued him summons on the eve of his visit there. It may be recalled, the senior Badal was summoned by a US court under provisions of the Alien Tort Claims Act (ATCT) and the Torture Victim Protect Act.

It is believed that a similar complaint had been lodged against Sukhbir both in Canada as well as the US under a similar law.

Summons to Badal in US: family of complainant back home being frequented by Punjab police

Barnala: The summons to Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal by a US court during his ongoing USA visit has its undercurrents felt in a Barnala village. Punjab police is on its toes to pin down the family of one of the complainant against Badal. Jagtar Singh of Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) and US organization 'Sikhs for Justice' had approached court under US alien torts claim act and torture victims protection act in Wisconsin and the court going by the complainant had issued summons to Badal giving him 21 days time to file reply.

The Barnala police after getting to know about Jagtar Singh belonging to Kothe Gill village in Barnala is making frequent visits to the family for gathering information about the man behind issuance of summons to state chief minister. Jagtar Singh, who according to police officials was declared proclaimed offender in Punjab, had shifted to US in late 2008.

Barnala police led by DSP Tapa and Sehna police station SHO visited the village on late Saturday evening and enquired about Jagtar from his father Chand Singh, brother Chamkaur Singh. It is being said that police is exerting pressure on the family to ask Jagtar for withdrawing the complainant. The family fears that they may have to face harassment at the hands of police.

Barnala SSP Surjit Singh confirming the Barnala police getting active about Jagtar said "it came out during digging information about Jagtar' past that he is a PO for jumping bail in an NDPS act case and has dubious past". SSP said it has come out that Jagtar in the past had links with terrorists and police wanted to know whether he still is in contact with some terrorist organization". He though denied putting pressure on the family.

Jagtar' brother Chamkaur Singh said police and intelligence officials had come calling on several occasions from Saturday to enquire about my brother and his activities in US and back home in the past. We have been told that they could be summoned to police station anytime". We are law abiding citizens and are living peacefully let no one should harass us, he added.

A Wisconsin district court issued summons to Badal on the eve of his US visit on August 8 after Sikhs for Justice and Jagtar had approached court for Badal allegedly shielding the police officials(pointing towards Punjab Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini) as being responsible for alleged torture and killing of innocent people during terrorism in Punjab.

This whole jackass lot needs to start thinking about living a truthful public life instead of a corrupt one from the dhindsa's to the badals and all them in-between. Why do they hurt their own people, the people they are meant to protect, and serve when the Guru Granth Sahib only asks to give love, they give abuse. If they have issues with other people they are politicians they should come clean or raise their moral standing above it the public pay you for your services to them if these people cant take strong criticism which should help them improve themselves why do they stand in public office at all. That's when you fall below public = (sat sangat) standing and waheguru our father looks on in disgust. Your forgivness you should seek from your public, god exists in the sangat!

Perhaps he needs to arrest his embarrassment and not be such a coward.lol
