Note that many people are unwittingly eating halal meat, because it is not labelled as such!

I have written to my MP and the relevant government departments - DEFRA, Trading Standards, Food Standards Agency etc. on many occasions - and to my MEPs too - asking for more transparency in labelling.

It is not just meat... halal animal bi-products are being used in other foods, such as Dairy - Yogurts and Cream - the gelatine is being replaced with halal gelatin!

Yes, from animals that have been Ritually Slaughtered by the halal method.

Guru Gobind Singh took a rather serious view of this aspect of the whole matter. He, therefore, while permitting flesh to be taken as food repudiated the whole theory of this expiatory sacrifice and the right of ruling Muslims to impose it on the non-Muslims. Accordingly, he made jhatka meat obligatory for those Sikhs who may be interested in taking meat as a part of their food.

Sikhs and Sikhism, Dr. I.J.Singh, Manohar Publishers.

The Sikh religion categorises meat as Jhatka – swiftly killed and acceptable to Sikhs , as opposed to Kuttha – where the animals suffer and are sacrificed to God.

Kuttha (Halal ) is rejected totally by the Sikh religion.
