A crucial witness in a 1984 anti-Sikh riot case relating to killing of six persons by a mob allegedly instigated by Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and whom CBI wanted to examine as its material witness but failed to trace him on Sunday appeared in a city court as defence witness of the beleaguered leader.
In his deposition as a defence witness for Kumar before Additional Sessions Judge Sunita Gupta, retired Colonel Dhanraj Singh Yadav sought to discredit a key prosecution witness Jagsher Singh who had earlier told the court that he had witnessed Kumar in Delhi cantt area near a Shiva temple instigating a riotous mob against Sikhs.
Singh, who had lost his two brothers in the carnage, had earlier also told the court that he had taken Yadav to Raj Nagar on November 2, 1984, to rescue Sikh families.
But Yadav on Monday denied that Singh had taken him anywhere to save any Sikh family from riotous mobs.
“It is incorrect to suggest that on the asking of Jagsher Singh, on November 2, 1984, I had gone to rescue his brothers, namely, Narender Pal Singh and Raghuvinder Singh,” Yadav said, adding it was one Om Prakash who had come to him asking to accompany him to rescue Kehar Singh's wife Jagdish Kaur and four children.
