Code of Conduct:

Code of conduct is a set of rules.
Definition of 'Code of Conduct'
as per Dictionary: A set of principles
and expectations that are considered
binding on any person who is a member
of a particular group.

In my understanding
Gurbani is Code of Conduct for
a Bhagat/Sikh/Devotee.

A certified Code for every Human
who becomes God's Devotee(God Oriented)
with His Grace.

This Code of Conduct can be used by anybody i
rrespective of color/cast/religion/language.

I am starting to collect Gurbani verses
those particularly lay stress on a
certain behaviour and help us shape
our conduct as a true servant
of God-Gurmukh.

Humilty is needed to be practiced. Unconditional Love needs to be cultivated.

First guru Ji tells the way to find the Truth- The True One is ALL HIMSELF. He is All-All is He Himself.

SATGURU PRASAAD​

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਇ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
saachaa saahib saach naae bhaakhiaa bhaao apaar ||
True is the Master, True is His Name-speak it with infinite love.​

ਆਖਹਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
aakhehi mangehi dhaehi dhaehi dhaath karae dhaathaar ||
People beg and pray, ""Give to us, give to us"", and the Great Giver gives His Gifts.​

ਫੇਰਿ ਕਿ ਅਗੈ ਰਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥
faer k agai rakheeai jith dhisai dharabaar ||
So what offering can we place before Him, by which we might see the Darbaar of His Court?​

ਮੁਹੌ ਕਿ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
muha k bolan boleeai jith sun dhharae piaar ||
What words can we speak to evoke His Love?​

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
anmrith vaelaa sach naao vaddiaaee veechaar ||
In the Amrit Vaylaa, the ambrosial hours before dawn, chant the True Name, and contemplate His Glorious Greatness.​

ਕਰਮੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਪੜਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
karamee aavai kaparraa nadharee mokh dhuaar ||
By the karma of past actions, the robe of this physical body is obtained. By His Grace, the Gate of Liberation is found.​

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਵੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥
naanak eaevai jaaneeai sabh aapae sachiaar ||4||
O Nanak, know this well: the True One Himself is All. ||4||​

ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ ॥
gaaveeai suneeai man rakheeai bhaao ||
Sing, and listen, and let your mind be filled with love.​

Gurbani eis jag meh chaanan
Gurbani har alakh lakhiayaa
Gurbani Gavo Bhaee
charan kamal parabh kay nit Dhi-aava-o​

Then Guru Ji teaches us about How to do His Praise, How the praise become worthy of anything. Discipline is must but it has to be performed with unconditional love and humility.

SATGURU PRASAAD​

ਤੀਰਥੁ ਤਪੁ ਦਇਆ ਦਤੁ ਦਾਨੁ ॥
theerathh thap dhaeiaa dhath dhaan ||
Pilgrimages, austere discipline, compassion and charity​

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਪਾਵੈ ਤਿਲ ਕਾ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
jae ko paavai thil kaa maan ||
these, by themselves, bring only an iota of merit.​

ਸੁਣਿਆ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਭਾਉ ॥
suniaa manniaa man keethaa bhaao ||
Listening and believing with love and humility in your mind,​

ਅੰਤਰਗਤਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਮਲਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
antharagath theerathh mal naao ||
cleanse yourself with the Name, at the sacred shrine deep within.​

ਸਭਿ ਗੁਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
sabh gun thaerae mai naahee koe ||
All virtues are Yours, Lord, I have none at all.​

ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਣ ਕੀਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
vin gun keethae bhagath n hoe ||
Without virtue, there is no devotional worship.​

ਸੁਅਸਤਿ ਆਥਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਬਰਮਾਉ ॥
suasath aathh baanee baramaao ||
I bow to the Lord of the World, to His Word, to Brahma the Creator.​

ਸਤਿ ਸੁਹਾਣੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ॥
sath suhaan sadhaa man chaao ||
He is Beautiful, True and Eternally Joyful.​

Even while cultivating a virtue, we have to keep a check on our mind. Mind must not start believing in 'I am doing' - No. We need to practice the fact: All Virtues are His and His alone- I, me, is nothing.

We need to do Vichaar on both:

1.Without Virtue -no devotional worship is possible
2.All virtues are His alone, none is mine/our.​

All Virtues are in our True Lord and Master; we are utterly without virtue. ||1||

Without the Guru, one's virtues do not shine forth; without virtue, there is no devotional worship.

ਤਉ ਗੁਣ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਗੁਣਹ ਵਸਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਨਸੈ ॥
tho gun pashhaanehi thaa prabh jaanehi guneh vas avagan nasai ||
If you recognize His Glorious Virtues, then you shall come to know God; thus virtue shall dwell in you, and sin shall run away.

ik oankaar sathinaam karathaa purakh gur prasaadh ||
One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. By Guru's Grace:


ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਤ ਗੁਮਾਨਾ ॥
jab eihu man mehi karath gumaanaa ||
When this mind is filled with pride,


ਤਬ ਇਹੁ ਬਾਵਰੁ ਫਿਰਤ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ॥
thab eihu baavar firath bigaanaa ||
then it wanders around like a madman and a lunatic.


ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਹੂਆ ਸਗਲ ਕੀ ਰੀਨਾ ॥
jab eihu hooaa sagal kee reenaa ||
But when it becomes the dust of all,

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਰਮਈਆ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
thaa thae rameeaa ghatt ghatt cheenaa ||1||
then it recognizes the Lord in each and every heart. ||1||


ਸਹਜ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਫਲੁ ਮਸਕੀਨੀ ॥
sehaj suhaelaa fal masakeenee ||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sathigur apunai mohi dhaan dheenee ||1|| rehaao ||
My True Guru has given me this gift. ||1||Pause||


ਜਬ ਕਿਸ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਮੰਦਾ ॥
jab kis ko eihu jaanas mandhaa ||
When he believes others to be bad,


ਤਬ ਸਗਲੇ ਇਸੁ ਮੇਲਹਿ ਫੰਦਾ ॥
thab sagalae eis maelehi fandhaa ||
then everyone lays traps for him.


ਮੇਰ ਤੇਰ ਜਬ ਇਨਹਿ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥
maer thaer jab einehi chukaaee ||
But when he stops thinking in terms of 'mine' and 'yours',


ਤਾ ਤੇ ਇਸੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥੨॥
thaa thae eis sang nehee bairaaee ||2||
then no one is angry with him. ||2||

ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
jab ein apunee apanee dhhaaree ||
When he clings to 'my own, my own',


ਤਬ ਇਸ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਮੁਸਕਲੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
thab eis ko hai musakal bhaaree ||
then he is in deep trouble.


ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
jab ein karanaihaar pashhaathaa ||
But when he recognizes the Creator Lord,


ਤਬ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਾਤਾ ॥੩॥
thab eis no naahee kishh thaathaa ||3||
then he is free of torment. ||3||


ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਅਪੁਨੋ ਬਾਧਿਓ ਮੋਹਾ ॥
jab ein apuno baadhhiou mohaa ||
When he entangles himself in emotional attachment,


ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਸਦਾ ਜਮਿ ਜੋਹਾ ॥
aavai jaae sadhaa jam johaa ||
he comes and goes in reincarnation, under the constant gaze of Death.


ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥
jab eis thae sabh binasae bharamaa ||
But when all his doubts are removed,


ਭੇਦੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ॥੪॥
bhaedh naahee hai paarabrehamaa ||4||
then there is no difference between him and the Supreme Lord God. ||4||


ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੇ ਭੇਦਾ ॥
jab ein kishh kar maanae bhaedhaa ||
When he perceives differences,


ਤਬ ਤੇ ਦੂਖ ਡੰਡ ਅਰੁ ਖੇਦਾ ॥
thab thae dhookh ddandd ar khaedhaa ||
then he suffers pain, punishment and sorrow.


ਜਬ ਇਨਿ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੀ ਬੂਝਿਆ ॥
jab ein eaeko eaekee boojhiaa ||
But when he recognizes the One and Only Lord,


ਤਬ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੂਝਿਆ ॥੫॥
thab thae eis no sabh kishh soojhiaa ||5||
he understands everything. ||5||


ਜਬ ਇਹੁ ਧਾਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਰਥੀ ॥
jab eihu dhhaavai maaeiaa arathhee ||
When he runs around for the sake of Maya and riches,


ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ਨਹ ਤਿਸ ਲਾਥੀ ॥
neh thripathaavai neh this laathhee ||
he is not satisfied, and his desires are not quenched.


ਜਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਹੋਇਓ ਜਉਲਾ ॥
jab eis thae eihu hoeiou joulaa ||
But when he runs away from Maya,


ਪੀਛੈ ਲਾਗਿ ਚਲੀ ਉਠਿ ਕਉਲਾ ॥੬॥
peeshhai laag chalee outh koulaa ||6||
then the Goddess of Wealth gets up and follows him. ||6||


ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ॥
kar kirapaa jo sathigur miliou ||
When, by His Grace, the True Guru is met,


ਮਨ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਜਲਿਓ ॥
man mandhar mehi dheepak jaliou ||
the lamp is lit within the temple of the mind.


ਜੀਤ ਹਾਰ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਕਰੀ ॥
jeeth haar kee sojhee karee ||
When he realizes what victory and defeat really are,


ਤਉ ਇਸੁ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਰੀ ॥੭॥
tho eis ghar kee keemath paree ||7||
then he comes to appreciate the true value of his own home. ||7||


ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਏਕੈ ॥
karan karaavan sabh kishh eaekai ||
The One Lord is the Creator of all things, the Cause of causes.

ਆਪੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੈ ॥
aapae budhh beechaar bibaekai ||
He Himself is wisdom, contemplation and discerning understanding.

ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਨੇਰੈ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥
dhoor n naerai sabh kai sangaa ||
He is not far away; He is near at hand, with all.


ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੮॥੧॥
sach saalaahan naanak har rangaa ||8||1||
So praise the True One, O Nanak, with love! ||8||1||
