This story is not unlike the months-long tale of the Gulf Oil Spill in the US. By invoking the Patriot Act, the powers that be even kept major and minor news channels from getting close enough to report a decent story. They made things up. And eventually took over, code for hijacked, scientific web sites that were covering the problem in order to control the environmental damage content. Big Oil eventually ordered to pay Big Fines, but a lot of credibility has been lost in the process. These people are being treated as if they are the collateral damage of war, war on the poor that is.
