Disrespect of Maharaj Ji at Ek Niwas

Dec 10, 2006 - 4:41:59 PM

ekniwas1_1.jpg

SikhSangat News readers will be all too aware of past incidences of disrespect to the eternal Sikh Guru: Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj at Ek Niwaas, Wolverhampton, UK. Sikhs gathered together from 5am at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara on Sedgley St, to begin the day with Nitnem paath, and went onto protest peacefully outside Ek Niwaas. Earlier in the year, an agreement was signed with representatives from Sikh organisations and Police that Ek Niwaas would give up the saroop of Maharaj ji. They did so but it was then discovered they had "senchiyaa".

As a direct result of the ongoing abuse for over a decade, the protests began on Sunday morning. Early in the afternoon, members of Ek Niwas became violent as they threw large pebbles at the Sikh Sangat, who were outside peacefully. Due to the ongoing abuse and attack on the Sikhs this led to many Sikhs entering Ek Niwas, however Police quickly took control. Two Singhs were arrested but later released. There were injuries to members of the Sikh community, including one youth who had to have stitches as he was hit on the forehead by a missile. Sangat then began to grew as word spread of this incident and sangat from all over the UK including Leicester, Southall and Manchester quickly reached Wolverhampton to help bring our Guru Jee home. It was only after the sangat grew and began to do naam simran, that the police were desperate for a resolution and a final attempt at a resolution was made. This was successful, and by 9pm Guru jee was released and brought back to Sedgley St where a Hukamnama was read ( SikhiToTheMAX - Enabling Gurmat Knowledge ) and Maharaj ji was taken to its righteous place of rest.

Idol worship taking place

Continuous prayers were recited throughout the day, Sikhs worked closely with police to resolve the issue, and that this has been an ongoing issue for almost 10 years. The Ek Niwas propetiers were shouting abuse and making indecent gestures towards the peacefully protesting congregation. Guru Jee was not given proper respect in this place, where idol worship, dancing, and other anti-Gurmat practices were taking place. Sikhs were willing to camp there all night if they had to. There were approximately 200 - 300 Sikhs. The protest lasted over 12 hours. Sikhs are, as a community, very tolerant to other faiths and religions and they to date do not have anything against Ek Niwas, however when it comes to exploiting Eternal Guru, then Sikhs will not tolerate any disrespect. Guru jee was being used for profiting, as well as other reasons, at the Ek Niwas complex.

A Pagri-dhari Hindu worshipping an idol at Ek Niwas

Wolverhampton, UK (KP) - Last week, Panthic Weekly received videotaped pieces of evidence from Sangat which illustrated the sacrilege and violation of Gur-Maryada currently taking place at the Ek Niwas Institute in Wolverhampton. It is being claimed that sacrilege had been going on for quite some time though UK Gurdwaras, in particular the Midlands Gurdwara Sahibs, have turned a blind eye when Sikh sangat brought it in the public eye.

Ek Niwas is for all practical purposes, a Mandir ( Hindu temple) which promotes so-called unity amongst all faiths. However, the only religions represented in its practices are Hinduism and Sikhism. The institution is registered as a UK charity (Registration# 1056024) since the 10th June 1996. According to the Charity Commission the main objective of Ek Niwas is "to advance religion".

Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji's Pavitar Saroop is in Prakash in this temple alongside idols of "Baba Balak Nath" and other Hindu deities. The Sikh Rehit Maryada (Sikh Code of Conduct) is being violated and Guru Ji's Pavitar Saroop is being used as a way of luring ignorant Sikhs. Furthermore, Punjabi song artists with Sikh backgrounds from the UK Bhangra scene are invited to sing Gurbani Shabads mixed with "Bhajans" (hymns) in praise of Balak Nath, and other Hindu gods and goddesses in the presence of Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. The video evidence features Silinder Pardesi, a well-known Punjabi singer, doing Beadbi of Gurbani by singing Shabads followed with slogans in praise for Balak Nath.
Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Sikh Supreme Authority of the worldwide Sikh community, has already issued a Hukamnama (edict), re-endorsing the Panthic Sikh Rehit Maryada which clearly states (Chapter IV, Article V) that no rituals or practices of any other religion can take place in a Gurdwara or place where Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is present. This includes the condemning the installation of statues and idols. In addition to Pooja and non-Sikh religious practices take place in the presence of Guru Sahib as the Ek Niwas temple worshippers dance, clap and sing songs in praise of Balak Nath and Hindu gods and goddesses in the presence of Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This is condemned by Gurbani:
ਨਚਿਐ ਟਪਿਐ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
"By dancing and jumping, devotional worship is not performed. But one who dies in the Word of the Shabad, obtains devotional worship. ||3||"
(Ang 158)

"He alone is a dancer, who dances with his mind. Waheguru is not satisfied with falsehood; He is pleased only with Truth."
(Ang 872)

Panthic Weekly advises the UK Sikh Sangat to take swift and immediate action in restoring the respect and sanctity of Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and implement the newly released Sandesh (memorandum) from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, which is clearly being violated by Ek Niwas. The Sangat is urged to write to the UK Charity Commission and register a serious complaint about the religious abuse and violations being carried out by the Ek Niwas institution (a UK registered charity), which is hurting the sentiments of the Sikh Community.

SGGS.jpg
A Sikh campaign group recently stormed two temples to remove the Guru Granth Sahib from the premises, on the pretext that the Sikh holy book should not be present at premises where 'non-Sikh worship' takes place.

The two temples were the Ek Nivas temple in Wolverhampton, which serves a mixed Hindu and Sikh congregation, and the Guru Wadbagh Singh Trust Gurudwara in Greenford.
Both premises were attacked on Sunday 10th December. According to eyewitness reports, around 400 Sikh men surrounded the Ek Nivas temple, some of who threw stones, causing some minor injuries to two temple workers. Some murthis (images) of Hindu deities were also damaged. A smaller group, of about 30 individuals, mostly in their late-twenties, were involved in the incident at the Gurudwara in Greenford.
According to Mataji Kanwaljeet Kaur, head priestess of the Wolverhampton temple, she was verbally abused and intimidated by the campaigners.

Hindu_Sikh.JPG
"We didn't have the Granth Sahib on the premises. What they took is called pothiyan, which are chapters from the holybook that anybody can buy from any shop." she added.

The Guru Granth Sahib (or the sections of it present on the premises) were removed and taken to other Gurudwaras, which the campaigners consider to adhere to Sikhism in a 'purer' form, and therefore be a more suitable place to house the holy book.
The 'Respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Campaign' made headlines last year for attacking some Sikh wedding parties. The group aims to protect the Sikh holy book, which Sikhs consider to be their living Guru, from disrespect.
Their current campaign is to prevent Sikh or Hindu temples (gurudwaras and mandirs) from having a copy of the SGGS at their premises, if the worship of 'Hindu idols' also takes place in the same area. The group has threatened to target two other temples in coming weeks.
"Guru Nanakji condemns all idol worship and to have the Guru Granth Sahibji in the same area is absolutely disgraceful," commented a spokesperson for the campaign group.
According to their website, the 'Respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahibji Campaign' distance themselves from any violence that occurred, but say that they will continue to search out places where the Guru Granth Sahib is placed alongside the worship of idols.
The wider issue
The latest string of attacks on temples, are very worrying. There are dozens of mandirs and gurudwaras in Britain in which the Guru Granth Sahib is displayed alongside either the worship of Hindu deities (such as Rama, Shiva or Durga) or the study of other forms of Hindu scripture. It is a tradition dating back centuries, and it is a potentially huge security issue for the Hindus and Sikhs who use these temples if all of them are going to be attacked in a similar way.
In their quest to maintain and consolidate the identity of Sikhism as a totally different and unrelated religion to Hinduism, they are indulging in intolerant acts that do not have a parallel anywhere in Sikh religion or history.

Bhai Sahib Ji,

kindly make this thread online.Das is not happy with the events but Many Sikhs are also not happy. If you put this thread you will find Bhai Indy(IS Dhillon also joing you.

Breaking the idols by force is not a good thing at all.Within Asharam of Nirmalas, with which das is associated. It is still there that Temeple is here with in Ashamram along side Gurudwara.(Asharam Bhajan Garrh Kartarpur Hairdwar(near Kharkhari).

Das worte about such wrong things in thread started by Indy Ji at www.sikhawareness.com.Had such guys been in India, they would have attaxcked Institutions of Sanatan Sikhs also. Some guys also killed our Nirmala Sant in Doaba over suich issues during turmoil period in Punjab.

what is the way out?

These guys need to be educated and let there be more pro Hindu converts in faith to keep a tab on hooliganism.(Das repeats pro Hindu but not pro hinduism).

Das was busy with soem doubts being risan about Sarbloh Bani of Tenth Master by some of our misguided brothers.that work was also in same line.So das could not talk about Bhagat with you.Das will write about that also soon.

But one thing das wants to say clearly,If any Sikh or Muslim worship First Master.that person is none. For Sikh and Muslim, only worship of Allah or Akal is needed.

Reason for Nirmalas or Udasis keeping idols was to dogde Muslims as if they are Hindus and kept providing covert support to Sikhs,Also they let Hindus join them and later they convert them to Gurmat.

Idols were also placed in Darbar Sahib depectnig Hindu Demigods standing at service of Akal.Or some say that they were placed to protect them from Muslims inavders. Many theories and some conflicting.

But treating Guru Granth Sahib Ji as idol and worship of itis not as per Gurmat.Further ,if Hindu keeps that, with idols,it means that Hindu is showing disrespects to idols also. Can you imgine to keep Holy Kuranm, which tells to break idol with Idols.

Guru Granth Sahib Ji calls Hindus Blind and dumb as they folow idol and are uprooted from roots(Vedas).

Even then Hindus keep Guru Granth Sahib Ji with idols insulting the both.Main reason is to attract Sikhs to temple or let Hindus does not go to Gurudwara and let Charhwa or offering comes to them.

If we do not go by a book and do opposite,is not that the insult to book?

anyway one more thing over here is that,Sikhs should have peacefully removed the copies and not broken the idols. In Area das lived,Hindus used to leave the old and new idols and pictures of Mata Rani etc. in Gurudwaras.Das use to hand them over to local Pandit of Hindu Temple. So as we are aware that due to to much of idols,Gurudwara Singh Sabha ,Sitaram Bajar is more a temple.

For Sikhs, such things are hurting.Sanatan Sikhs can use consolations but hardcore one become offensive.

Das has herad Sikhs taling about and warning about this Ek Niwas since last years or so.It appears that it was bottled up.what happened has not happened for good.

on tapoban.org also, which is hot bed of hotblooded, this was condenmed.

Soory and regrets
(Also you are requested to amek it online and reply of das also).Yuo will find more Sikhs siding with you.

It was better that Raj Bhai had come over here.

both sides need some education.

Dear Sister kindly remove all the stuff on thread started by Das and let it come here.
[Mode: Done]

Guru Maharaj should not be treated like idols even in Sikh Gurudwaras and such thing will happen if,we have idols along the Scritpture.

But in Sanatan Sikhs Muslims and Christians are also respected. Why did not a cabin for Salat(Namaz or Muslims prayer) and Church was there in Ek Niwas. In Baba Virsa Singh Ji's place oon Chirstmis,There was celebration in Church.

A Turban was tied to Lord Jesus. It is mark that he wa Sikhs and to gain Christhood, his folowers should come to our way.
