A day after being excommunicated from the Sikh Panth, former Akal Takht Jathedar Prof Darshan Singh Ragi hit back at the five Sikh high priests calling them `tankhaiya (guilty of religious punishment)' for their "antiPanthic activities".
"The Takht Patna Sahib and Takht Hazoor Sahib Jathedars are guilty of not following the maryada (religious code of conduct) ordained from the highest temporal seat of the Akal Takht. The remaining three Jathedars also deserve the same onus of blame for being hand in glove with them in all anticommunity activities. How can they issue an edict to excommunicate someone from Sikhism?" Prof Ragi said.
He said the Sikhs would reject "this biased action" by the clergy against him. "Sikhs know that there are certain anti-religious forces behind the clergy who manage their actions with remote control," he said.
Ragi said there had been occasions when the clergy had violated the Akal Takht directive by attending ceremonies in which the banned scripture, Dasam Granth, was adorned alongside Guru Granth Sahib.
He said the clergy had misused their authority by effecting changes in the Nanakshahi Calendar.
