Former jathedar Giani Savinder Singh was jathedar of Sri Keshgarh Sahib, one of the 5 Takhts of Sikhism. Sri Keshgarh Sahib is located in Anandpur, and this is significant for two reasons.

1. The Takht is an historical gurdwara in Punjab and thus comes under the jurisdiction of the SGPC. The jathedar is a civil employee of the Punjab government. Therefore neither are independent of SGPC leadership (Lamba and Makkar), nor of the Shiromani Akaali Dal SAD now headed by Badal.

2. Anandpur is the site of Baisakhi Day 1699 when Guru Gobind Singh, Nanak 10, "baptised" the 'Panj Pyaras' where it is said Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib stands.
