Maajh, Fifth Mehl:
Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, my heart is filled with peace.
By His Grace, His devotees become famous and acclaimed.
Joining the Society of the Saints, I chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; the disease of laziness has disappeared. ||1||
O Siblings of Destiny, the nine treasures are found in the Home of the Lord;
He comes to meet those who deserve it by their past actions.
The Perfect Transcendent Lord is spiritual wisdom and meditation. God is All-powerful to do all things. ||2||
In an instant, He establishes and disestablishes.
He Himself is the One, and He Himself is the Many.
Filth does not stick to the Giver, the Life of the World. Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, the pain of separation departs. ||3||
Holding on to the hem of His Robe, the entire Universe is saved.
He Himself causes His Name to be chanted.
The Boat of the Guru is found by His Grace; O Nanak, such blessed destiny is pre-ordained. ||4||41||48||

Raag Aasaa, First Mehl:
There are six schools of philosophy, six teachers, and six sets of teachings.
But the Teacher of teachers is the One, who appears in so many forms. ||1||
O Baba: that system in which the Praises of the Creator are sung
-follow that system; in it rests true greatness. ||1||Pause||
The seconds, minutes and hours, days, weeks and months,
and the various seasons originate from the one sun;
O Nanak, in just the same way, the many forms originate from the Creator. ||2||2||

i'd like to know how others interpret this. in my mind, i imagine it means that all faiths which praise God are good. as i understand it, Guru Sahib is telling us that all religions are good, because God is ONE, and is the same, no matter which school you follow.

am i reading too much into it?

God is One , He appears as a Teacher (who teaches about Himself) in many forms.

Guru Ji made us aware that the belief that there are six Gurus and so there are six different paths(ways to reach God) is wrong.

Guru is the same-GOD, He Himself appears in different forms not just six.

To recognize if the path is True and the Guru is True- He gave us the test:

'system in which the Praises of the Creator are sung' is the right one.

The example of the 'Sun' further clarifies the Oneness among many. So the fact is that there cant be 'six' different ways to reach the same one Creator, there is only one.

There is Only one Path same for all-sing praises of God, the Creator.

This is what I understand from the above Word of Guru Ji.

Shalok:
He Himself is formless, and also formed; the One Lord is without attributes, and also with attributes.
Describe the One Lord as One, and Only One; O Nanak, He is the One, and the many. ||1||

He is ALL. There is no OTHER, but Him and only Him. Don't get confused by the forms or formlessness- All is Him.

but all paths sing the praises of trhe creator, don't they? i mean, some call him Raam, some call him Allah, some call him Waheguru... but all of us sing his praises, so all of the paths must be right. isn't it?

There are six schools of philosophy, six teachers, and six sets of teachings.

ok, six schools of philosophy would be different religions. six teachers would be different prophets/gurus/saints. six sets of teachings would be again, different religious teachings.
but the teacher of teachers (God) is one. this means that no matter what religion you follow, God is God, there is no other. right?

The seconds, minutes and hours, days, weeks and months,
and the various seasons originate from the one sun;
O Nanak, in just the same way, the many forms originate from the Creator. ||2||2||

the way i read this is that the many ways of describing time are all made by one sun, then also the many ways of praising God are all made by one God, which would make them all valid.

does this make sense?

True. The only true Path- singing God's praise.
