When we have a culture (Indian one !) that glorifies sardars but also laughs at them , and oh no jobs in news anchors or any anchor for that matter unless you're in a punjabi news channel !
Ever wondered why we rarely see any sikh men in the media ? How often u see a sikh man with dastar and beard in a hindi news channel or something like that ?
even the men who do anchoring are more often than not , clean shaven , Why ?
Despise for sikhi saroop ? We're a materialistic society man ! its more to do with materialism and superficial appearance than "anti-sikh" . I have seen hindus ridiculing long-haired hindu swamis also ! Hindus do often question their babas also why they keep long hair.
It seems more hindus these days in india give more of a puzzled and curious look at sardars than a disgusting look or something like that. They're genuinely curious , They asked me "Do you remove it (turban) at home?" . They want to know. We don't have many leaders getting out of their jatt-pride and punjabi-sikhism to tell them
I think its more of this mindset among people of trying to mingle in and assimilate rather than sticking out !
Most sikh women of today , trust me, are just as materialistic as any other woman or man !
Infact, I have seen hindu women also marrying sikh men . "Sardar ji" image despite all sardar jokes still add a bit of leverage to us in india .
I tell u we need more models !
More handsome young sikh men in advertisements of clothing, fashion, accessories .
Send a message : A Sikh man can be just as handsome as anyone else !
I had this hindu punjabi elderly man casually joke with me in a casual convo we were having :
"sardarni sohni , sardar jhalla" (sikh women are beautiful , sikh men are silly)
Needless to say I was quite offended
