The body of Raja Ram, a Majhabi Sikh, who had married Manjit Kaur, who belonged to the Ramdasia sect, against the wishes of the latter's family, was recovered from a railway track near Dhuri on Sunday, they said.
Realising that tempers were running high in the girl's family over their marriage, the deceased had taken a house on rent at Sangrur and the couple had been living together.
On August 27 Raja Ram left his house to purchase vegetable from the market but didn't return.
Hari Ram, father of the deceased, reported the matter to police alleging that his son had been kidnapped by his daughter-in-law's uncle and his associates.
