MARIANNE Faithfull has confessed her mother Eva’s hatred of men could have affected her own four-year romance with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. The 66-year-old dated Jagger from 1966 to 1970. She even co-wrote Sister Morphine, which is featured on the Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers album.

“Eva  never got over it and always hated men and passed it on to me. She  wouldn’t even have realized it — it just happened,” she said.

“The  trauma and horror was life-long. It took until I was 50 to be in a  relationship, to be in love and to not have to take drugs or drink to  have sex.”

“Mick loved me and I loved him, but something in me  compelled me to just walk away. I don’t really know why. I had to move  on. It was very painful and very, very hard as I loved him. I think my  mother — the way she was with this unspoken loathing of men – had a huge  effect.

“It was a big problem for me in the 60s, especially as I had to pretend everything was so wild and sexual and it really wasn’t.”

I wonder how many men have looked across at their wives/girlfriends and thought, 'why cant you be more like Marriane Faithfull', and yet, truth be known, it was an untrue image that merely served to corrupt mens view of women, their desires and needs.
