ਸੈਨਾ ਸਾਧ ਸਮੂਹ ਸੂਰ ਅਜਿਤੰ ਸੰਨਾਹੰ ਤਨਿ ਨਿੰਮ੍ਰਤਾਹ 

Sainā sāḏẖ samūh sūr ajiṯaʼn saʼnnāhaʼn ṯan nimarṯāh.

The Holy people are an invincible army of spiritual warriors; their bodies are protected by the armor of humility.


ਆਵਧਹ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰਮਣੰ ਓਟ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਕਰ ਚਰਮਣਹ 

Āvḏẖah guṇ gobinḏ ramṇaʼn ot gur sabaḏ kar cẖaramṇėh.

Their weapons are the Glorious Praises of the Lord which they chant; their Shelter and Shield is the Word of the Guru's Shabad.


ਆਰੂੜਤੇ ਅਸ੍ਵ ਰਥ ਨਾਗਹ ਬੁਝੰਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਰਗਹ 

Ārūṛ▫ṯe asav rath nāgah bujẖanṯe parabẖ mārgah.

The horses, chariots and elephants they ride are their way to realize God's Path.


ਬਿਚਰਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਯੰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਸੈਨਾ ਧਾਯੰਤੇ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਕੀਰਤਨਹ 

Bicẖarṯe nirabẖ▫yaʼn saṯar sainā ḏẖā▫yanṯe gopāl kīraṯnėh.

They walk fearlessly through the armies of their enemies; they attack them with the Kirtan of God's Praises.


ਜਿਤਤੇ ਬਿਸ੍ਵ ਸੰਸਾਰਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਵਸ੍ਯ੍ਯੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ਪੰਚ ਤਸਕਰਹ ॥੨੯॥

Jiṯṯe bisav sansārah Nānak vas▫yaʼn karoṯ pancẖ ṯaskarahi. ||29||

They conquer the entire world, O Nanak, and overpower the five thieves. ||29||


A cursory search of SriGranth shows up just three references to 'shield'.  This one seems most relevant.  It's from panna 1356.  Which is a fascinating panna, btw!


This shabad gives another appreciation of the khanda \ Nishan Sahib.
