ਸੂਹੀ ਲਲਿਤ ॥
Sūhī laliṯ.

ਬੇੜਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਨ ਸਕਿਓ ਬੰਧਨ ਕੀ ਵੇਲਾ ॥ ਭਰਿ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਜਬ ਊਛਲੈ ਤਬ ਤਰਣੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥
Beṛā banḏẖ na saki▫o banḏẖan kī velā. Bẖar sarvar jab ūcẖẖlai ṯab ṯaraṇ ḏuhelā. ||1||
When time to make so did not make the raft. When ocean swells in full, swimming is so difficult.

ਹਥੁ ਨ ਲਾਇ ਕਸੁੰਭੜੈ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਢੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Hath na lā▫e kasumbẖ▫ṛai jal jāsī dẖolā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Do not attach hands to worldly possessions, such will dissipate fast like the color of Safflower.

ਇਕ ਆਪੀਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈ ਪਤਲੀ ਸਹ ਕੇਰੇ ਬੋਲਾ ॥ ਦੁਧਾ ਥਣੀ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਲਾ ॥੨॥
Ik āpīnĥai paṯlī sah kere bolā. Ḏuḏẖā thaṇī na āvī fir ho▫e na melā. ||2||
One so feeble the bride, the spouse so rebuking. Just as milk does not return to the breast, so will not meet again.

ਕਹੈ ਫਰੀਦੁ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਹੁ ਅਲਾਏਸੀ ॥ ਹੰਸੁ ਚਲਸੀ ਡੁੰਮਣਾ ਅਹਿ ਤਨੁ ਢੇਰੀ ਥੀਸੀ ॥੩॥੨॥
Kahai Farīḏ sahelīho saho alā▫esī. Hans cẖalsī dummṇā ah ṯan dẖerī thīsī. ||3||2||
Says Farid to female friends, spouse will beckon. Soul walks in despondence and body becomes a mound of dust.

ESSENCE: Baba Farid ji describe how when the right time is missed to build understanding one finds oneself helpless during the needs of high tempest. Farid ji also warn against attachment to false as it will fade away.

Farid ji compare self to a feeble one and the creator to a strong spouse so rebuking. There will be no reunion or fruition of conjugation with the creator.

In the end the creator beckons and with all this past, soul would walk despondently as the body becomes a pile of dust.

Note: This sabad is quite often used to remind sangat to not lose time or procrastinate in understanding and building such a living relationship with the creator.
