A delegation of the All India Shiromani Akali Dal leaders today met governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhavan here and discussed the situation in Kashmir Valley and issues relating to welfare of the Sikh community.
The six-member delegation, led by S Jaswant Singh Maan, demanded measures for socio-economic development of the Sikh community, their representation in various bodies, including the state legislature, J&K public service commission and J&K subordinate services recruitment board.
In their memorandum of demands, they wanted launching of a special recruitment drive for the Sikh youth in Kashmir Valley and teaching of Punjabi language in the schools in the Valley.
Other demands included setting up of a Punjabi department in the University of Kashmir and establishing a Punjabi section in the Jammu and Kashmir State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
