Sikh Kidnapped And Stabbed
Sunday 21st August, 2005Fauja Singh - Panthic Weekly Staff
Peterbroough, UK (KP) - A Sikh man stagerred into Woodston pub in Peterbroough, bleeding heavily after being stabbed. The man got to the pub on Belsize Avenue alerting the public that he was bleeding from stab wounds and had thick nylon rope around his wrists. Horrified drinkers in the pub went to his aid as the terrified man managed to gasp that he had been attacked by men wearing balaclavas.
The 25-year-old Sikh man, staggered in the front door bleeding heavely and calling for help. Customers were deeply shocked as the Sikh told them he had been the victim of a brutal abduction.
One woman who was in the pub just after 10.30pm on Tuesday described how she and others tried to help the Sikh victim of this brutal racist attack. The woman, said: "He told us that he had been attacked by four men, who were wearing balaclavas, and then dragged down an alley nearby. He said they tied him up and stabbed him. He was in a bad way. We ran towards him to help him and sit him down. He looked terrible.'
"He had thick, blue nylon rope around his wrists still and both his arms had been slashed from the elbows upwards.
"The stab wound in his leg was just inches from a main artery. He had also been severely beaten and was terrified. I couldn't believe it. It was terrible to see someone so brutally injured."
Sharon Rimmington, Landlady of the Woodston pub said: "It was an awful thing to happen to anyone and he looked very badly injured. It's not what you expect, or what you want to see happen, in Woodston, and it is very upsetting."
Police and an ambulance were called and arrived within minutes. Paramedics administered oxygen to the injured man inside the pub, while officers took a statement.
The man was taken to Peterborough District Hospital where he was treated for cuts and bruises and stab wounds to his leg and arms. Police have launched an investigation into the attack which is suspected to be racist in nature.
Detective Constable Mark Stratton said: "I would appeal to anyone present in this area around 10.30pm on Tuesday, who may have seen the assault, or what happened in the moments leading up to it, to contact me."
"We need to find out exactly what happened prior to this assault taking place. Any information you have, no matter how trivial or insignificant you feel it may be, could help us to do that and find those responsible."
Anyone with information should call DC Stratton at Thorpe Wood police station, on 0845 456 4564, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
