TOHRA/PATIALA: Cutting across party lines and political affiliations, thousands of people from different walks of life attended the 'antim ardas' of Joginder Kaur Tohra, wife of former SGPC president late Gurcharan Singh Tohra at his native village here on Friday.
Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, deputy chief minister and president Shiromani Akali Dal Sukhbir Singh Badal, SGPC president Jathedar Avtar Singh, speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Union minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur, Member Rajya Sabha Avinash Rai Khanna and other leaders of different political parties paid tributes to Kaur.
The CM announced a grant of Rs 25 lakh for setting up of a modern community centre at village Tohra, which will be well-equipped with all kind of services for promoting community life especially marriages of daughters with rural background.
CM appreciated the announcement made by the SGPC president Jathedar Avtar Singh to set up an institute in memory of Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra at Bhadurgarh near Patiala. He further said that Sikh Panth would remember the services of Jathedar Tohra and his wife for the welfare (chardi kalan) of the Sikh Panth.
Giani Gurbacahan Singh Jathedar of Sri Akal takht read the Hukamnama and Giani Kulwinder Singh of Sri Darbar Sahib Amritsar performed the ardas ceremony.
