New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) Lamenting that India was not being treated
as an equal by the United States in the fight against terror,
the BJP today apprehended that India may be denied access to the
most wanted terrorist mastermind -- David Coleman Headley -- now
under US custody for his role in the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai.
"It is indeed a failure of Indian diplomacy that India provided
complete access to Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist captured in the
Mumbai attacks, and India has been denied same quality of access
to Headley," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman told newspersons
here.
She said it was "a diplomatic failure that India had failed to
assert its sovereign right by not obtaining access for a custodial
interrogation of the arrested mastermind. Only yesterday US
Ambassador Timothy Roemer had stated that no decision to provide
access to interrogate Headley has been taken by his country. A few
days ago, US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs
Robert Blake had stated that the US would extradite Headley on the
charges where he has admitted his guilt."
