US pastor says he has plans for another anti-Islam protest
India Gazette
Sunday 3rd April, 2011
• Pastor Jones to lead protest bound to insult Muslims
• Will lead followers to largest mosque in US
• Not concerned about more bloodshed
Extremist US pastor Terry Jones has announced he will lead an anti-Islam rally outside the largest US mosque in Dearborn, Michigan, on April 22nd.
The Florida minister provoked an international outcry last year when he announced plans to burn copies of the Koran on the anniversary of the September 11th attacks in 2010.
He reconsidered his decision on that occasion but
supervised the burning of a copy of Islam's holy book on March 20th this year.
Jones, the pastor of a fringe church in Florida has been unrepentant about the bloodshed set off by the burning of the Koran.
The event led to deadly protests in Afghanistan and has stoked anti-Western sentiments in many Muslim communities around the world.
Ten foreign workers for the United Nations were killed by furious protesters in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
Pakistanis also took to the streets in a nationwide move to condemn the Koran-burning, calling it a threat to religious harmony.
At least ten Afghans were killed in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar on Saturday, on a second day of violent protests over the desecration of the Koran.
Jones has now defiantly vowed to lead the protest in Michigan, still claiming the Koran incites violence.
