Many of us who have gone thru the difficult and trying periods of 1980's and are trying to compare it with the period of Mughals.
This I think is absolutely false propoganda on part of of our competitors in our country India and may be the muslims of India and Pakistan.
They know that without Sikhs it is easy to conquere India ( not in militaristic sense but in cultural sense ).
See how they have hijacked films , songs and now even patrotism (the biggest joke being played on India ).
There are several reason why must we see in new light the period of 1980's and forgive and forget it that era or else we will see Islam prevading all over India one day .
We are the natural guardians of Indias diverse hinduvata culture from every threat- defence, economics etc. We must figh and get back that right.
1980's was a fight between two brothers in one part of India over some ego reasons . Just like the catholics and Protestants in past. It was not a JIHAD or a CRUSADE .
The remaining part of the country was not even bothered about it.
It was for many of them some thing like a caste war which keeps on erupting in different parts of India.
The cause and effect are not very clear of the 1980's scenario.
Why was there a turmoil there in first place in a peaceful and progressive Punjab :---" Sona the chidi.The house and Beacon of virtues and Knowledge ".
Several reasons can be hypothesesed though I have no proof except circumstantial.
1 ) Lack for maturity in Punjabis to understand that a new star son was being born in Indian Punjab the "SIKHS".
The purpose of Sikhs was to encourage a roubustness by diversity in Punjabi and later to be the Indian society ( please read the science of robustness contributed by diversity. There are a fulfledged articles in branch of engineering on this) .
Sikhs were suppose to be the final frontier of Indian civilization. They were never suppose to fall and fail even if all else were to lie in ruins and shambles . They were bestowed with the power of Phoenix and immortality .
2 ) Western Society fondness for SIKHS :-The courage , friendship , comradeship and hardwork shown by Sikhs to Western civilization also made them think of harnessing this philosophy in there country in an integrated way.
What better way to get Sikhs over to Canada /UK/ Australia than give them a push in form riots in India , with a imagined threat to there religion. Allow them all the things they cherish eg Gurdwaras, Punjabi Language , Music etc .Thing which are very dear to a Sikhs heart ( after all he is a Guardian of Punjabi culture and now Indian civilization ) . It was a smart way these brilliant westener work.
I some how admire these westerner inspite of what many people may say about them due to jealousy .
See there discoveries like Telephone, TV , movies , cars, Computers, Robots , aeroplane , spaceship. They know the art of converting Dreams into reality which no other civilization can boast of till today.
3 ) SIKHS have a strong sense of self made people : Thisnotion some times lands SIKHS in trouble. The habit of getting every thing by hard work and not reciving it as a gift also contributed to the
the 1980's period.
How could they inherit a rich well industraized and educated Punjab from there fore fathers. They wanted to take a pride in being a self made people / society/nation/civilization.
Then also thinking that SINGH is a KING born to rule. This automatically gets them at loggerhead with other groups who also eye the throne of Punjab / India.
4 ) Immaturity and youthfulness of a young religion: It is a young religion which has just come out of it infancy .It is 300 years old and has to learn a lot of many subtle ways of life from experience of other religion and civilization .
As sikhs grow they got to learn that life is also about subtility. Sikhs living in UK can pick up this art beautifully and propogate it amongst rest of us after all we are Sikhs the learners.
I consider Britishers the smartest Europeon born. They managed to rule the world inspite of being a tiny nation . They made English a global language by subtility ( see article in Nature journal on how English became a global language and is now immortalised for ever in mans history).
5 ) Preeminence to martial history :-
Sikhs in the sense give to much imporance to force for solving all problems to life. It is like they considereing themself as a hammer . From this view point evey problem looks like a nail to be just hammered in. This is not a correct philosophy all the time . Certian things/people are sorted by subtility , diplomacy ,friendship, lobbying etc etc .
This streak of violence is still seen even today in many Punjabi songs of like " mardeyga ya marjavaga" vintage by a punjabi singer.
After we have had 10 gurus not all practised martialism as a means to solve all challenges of life . Martial methods was used only as a last resort by our beloved
10th Guru
5 ) Naive attempts by some groups in India to weaken the Sikhs: Sikh by there birth had to create reactionary force around them. It is by simple newtons 3 rd law .
These reactionary forces dont realize that they can fool some people of India for all the time . But you cant fool all the people of Indian for all the time .The fact is that Sikhs and India are one and same and they are the deepest of friends/brothers. If Sikhs can be regarded as assest in western country then there worth is even more to there homeland .
All over india it is known that
a) Sikhs saved India from Mughals ( jealousy factor for those who did not fight then. they missed a golden chance.)
b) Saved India from 1947, 65 , 71 aggression.
c ) Got them out of hunger by green revolution.
d ) Got them out of a Economic crisis.
e ) Attempting to avert a future energy crisis for nation.
All of these are heart burns for other group who call them selvs Indian but are unable to look beyond there selfish goal.Sikhs have served India selflessly.
It is just that we do not know how to take our rights in India.
We behave very egotistically much to the dislike to our Indian Bethrens . If we become a little humble we can alway inherit the Indian throne.
How ever there is a caveat to this. I am not sure we would be so effective if we became very humble. We may not sucssed in difficult times the country may face tomorrow.
This change in attitude requires delebration by "Sikh think tank" so that the country and community is not put in jeoprady tomorrow.
There is a natural default state of our very old country to fall int traps. We as Indians tend do same errors repeatedly .
We Sikhs with our diversity and the young sons of this country must guard it by being alive and kicking in all walks of life of nation. The beautiful country is a robust profusion of myriads of cultures , religions , traditions and landscapes.
We must stand by our nation in spirit of " Nisch kar apni Jeet karo "

The fact is that we have our PM who is Sikh , a chief of army staff who is also a Sikh
This shows that 1980's may be a traumatic period .It however cannot be equated with the Mughals. Where every day was a struggle to keep our faith alive. Where we were hunted till there last days.
There is a resurgence of the Mughal period today for all of us to see as we Sikhs are missing. Do not get out numbered by Muslims beyond a particular ratio. The last only weapon and statergy left to them to fight with.
We must rather capture Indias glory which exended all the way till Afghanistan in a very contemporary way. We must not let anything stop us in our way to bring India to its prinstine glory of Ram Rajaya . No force should (be it nations ,culture ,religions, treaties or mountains) be able to stop us . We must use all our friends on this planet in this goal .
So cheer up and forgive and forget the period of 1980's. Move on with your very own rising India .After all no one kicked a dead dog. You got kicked only because you were too good.
So just go keep on with the good work wherever you are in all the field of science , technology , arts , music . In whichever country you are be a strong nationalist .
History will write within a few hundred years the truth that Sikhs are the greatest civilization mankind was ever been blessed with.
