Nanak's unparalleled agape (benign love for all humankind) is only matched by the the universality of his message. His mastery of the particularities of Hindu and Islamic philosophy were adroitly utilized by him to express his message to the peoples to whom he preached. And why shouldn't he have done so? Whereas the Vedas were meant for the people of the Indo-Aryan patrimony, and the Quran is meant for Semitic sons of Abraham, Nanak's message is for all humankind.
Hypothetically, is there any question about Nanak's ability to preach to any given people in the terms that they would have understood at such time? That he would preach to the Natives of the new world in terms of the "Great Father Spirit"? Or, indeed, to the English, French, and Germans, in Christian idioms familiar to those peoples?
I am thoroughly convinced that Nanak's message is qualitatively different, and substantially superior, to all those that came before it. True, India has pride of place as the cradle of Sikhi til date. But what will this mean, practically speaking, a millenia or two hence? Again, Nanak is for all humankind.
It cannot seriously be argued that the Rig Veda, for example, is coterminous and synonymous with Sikhi philosophy. The Rig Veda is an expression of a sociological and religious context which had passed on from the world stage thousands of years before Nanak's birth. Mohenjadaro is long gone, yet Sikhism is alive and well. Where are the animal sacrifices in Sikhism? Where is the equivalent in Sikhism to the purported "Soma" sacrament found in the Vedas?
As opposed to the mysterious rites of a dead people, the Sikhi way of worship is a living, breathing tradition. Nanak tells us, in contrast to the Vedas, that our "Aarti" can never be lost, so long as the world continues to exist, and there is a human left to perceive it:
