ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਖਤ ਪਲਟ-ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਲੇਸ਼ਣ

ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦਾ ਤਖਤਾ ਪਲਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਕੋਟਾ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਹਫ਼ਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਤਰ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ 15 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਚੁਣੌਤੀ ਬਣ ਗਈ। ਭੜਕਾਈ ਭੀੜ ਦੇ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਪਾਰਲੀਮੈਂਟ, ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼,ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਹੋਰ ਇਮਾਰਤਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਧਾਵਾ ਬੋਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਮਜੀਬ ਦਾ ਬੁੱਤ ਵੀ ਤੋੜਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਛੱਡਣਾ ਪਿਆ ਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿੰਡਨ ਏਅਰਪੋਰਟ ਤੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਉਤਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਨਾਹ ਦੀ ਇਜ਼ਾਜ਼ਤ ਮੰਗੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਅਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲੀ। ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹੁਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਯੂਰਪੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਇਜ਼ਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ।
ਇਸ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੀ ਸਾਜਿਸ਼ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈ ਹੈ।ਜਮਾਤ-ਇ-ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਪੱਖ ਦੀ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਏਜੰਸੀ ਆਈਐਸਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਬੀਐਨਪੀ ਦੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਭੁਗਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਚੀਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਿ ਤੇ ਇਹ ‘ਤਖਤਾ ਪਲਟ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ । ਆਈ ਐਸ ਆਈ ਦੀ ‘ਰਿਜੀਮ ਚੇਂਜ’ ਭਾਵ ‘ਤਖਤਾ ਪਲਟ’ ਪਲਾਨ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ, ਬੀਐਨਪੀ ਤੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਪੱਖੀ ਜਮਾਤ-ਇ-ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਨੇ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਣਾਈ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਸੂਤਰਾਧਾਰ ਖਾਲਿਦਾ ਜ਼ੀਆ ਦਾ ਬੇਟਾ ਸੀ । ਇਸ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਅਧੀਨ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਫੈਲਾਉਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਅਸਤੀਫਾ ਦਿਵਾਉਣਾ ਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਹਥਿਆਉਣਾ ਸੀ ।ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਕੋਟਾ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ 1971 ਦੀ ਅਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਜੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੜਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਲਈ 30% ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਖਵਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਪੱਖੀ ਜਮਾਤ-ਇ-ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਅਵਾਮੀ ਲੀਗ ਅਤੇ ੳਸੁਦੇ ਸਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾ ਦੰਗਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਕਰੀਬਨ ਤਿੰਨ ਸੌ ਲੋਕ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ।ਇਸ ਦੰਗੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਵਾਮੀ ਲੀਗ ਦੇ ਛੇ ਵਰਕਰ ਵੀ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ। ਭੀੜ ਬੇਕਾਬੂ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਤਾਂ ਫੌਜ ਮੁਖੀ ਜਨਰਲ ਵਕਾਰ-ਉਜ਼-ਜ਼ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਭੀੜ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਗੋਲੀ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ। ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹੁਸੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਅਸਤੀਫਾ ਦੇ ਦਿਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਹੈਲੀਕਾਪਟਰ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਆ ਗਈ ਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਹਿੰਡਨ ਹਵਾਈ ਅੱਡੇ ਤੇ ਇੰਤਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਨਾਹ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ। ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਸਕਿਉਰਟੀ ਅਡਵਾਈਜ਼ਰ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਹਿੰਡਨ ਹਵਾਈ ਅੱਡੇ ਤੇ ਗੱਲ ਬਾਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨਵੇਂ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਪਟਣ ਲਈ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਬੁਲਾਈ ਹੈ।ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਾਰਲੀਮੈਂਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਦੀ ਹੱਦ ਉਤੇ ਚੌਕਸੀ ਵਧਾ ਦਿਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਿਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਨੇ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੇਸ਼ਨਲ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਮੁਖੀ ਖਾਲਿਦਾ ਜ਼ੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇ ਦਿਤੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਕੌਮੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਜਮਾਤ ਇ ਇਸਲਾਮੀ, ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੇਸ਼ਨਲ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਜੀਵੀ ਲਏ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਸਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਹੁਣ ਮੁੜ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਏਗੀ । ਫੌਜ ਮੁਖੀ ਜਨਰਲ ਵਕਾਰ-ਉਜ਼-ਜ਼ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ (ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ) ਸੁਰਖਿਆ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਲੈ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ। ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਕਰੋ," ।
ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਵਿਰੁਧ ਏਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਜੁੜਣ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਰੋਸ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਧੱਕਾ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਕੇ ਪਿਛਲੀਆਂ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਰੋਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਰੋਧੀਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਮੁਕਦਮੇ ਚੱਲੇ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਨੰਨ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਕਾਮੀਆਂ ਆਈਆਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੁਰਪਸ਼ਨ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਤੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਦਤਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਗਈ ਇਸ ਹੜਤਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਅਪੀ ਹੜਤਾਲ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲਣ ਲੱਗੀ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਜਮਾਤ ਇ ਇਸਲਾਮੀ, ਬੰਗਲਾ ਨੇਸ਼ਨਲ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਈ ਐਸ ਏ ਨੇ ਅਪਣੇ ਅਪਣੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਤੇਲ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਅਸੰਤੋਸ਼ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਗਿਆ। ਢਾਕਾ ਯੁਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਮੁੱਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਇਆ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਬਗਾਵਤ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਂਬੜ ਬਣਾ ਦਿਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਗੱਦੀ ਛੱਡਣ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਸ ਤੋਂ ਭੱਜਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿਤਾ। ਜੋ ਹਾਕਮ ਡਿਕਟੇਟਰ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ ਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਾ ਸੁਣੇ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਮਰਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਕਰੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਸ਼ਰ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਭਾਰਤ ਉਤੇ ਇਸ ਬਗਾਬਤ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡਾ ਅਸਰ ਪਵੇਗਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਲਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਰਗੀ ਫੌਜੀ ਕੰਟ੍ਰੋਲ ਅਧੀਨ ਨਵੀਂ ਬਣੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਗਰੀਬੀ ਵੱਲ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਚੀਨ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਦਖਲ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਦੋ ਪਕਿਸਤਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਮਣਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਚੀਨ ਜੋ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕ ਹਵਾਈ ਅੱਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਬੰਦਰਗਾਹ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਫਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਲਈ ਵੱਡਾ ਖਤਰਾ ਖੜਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।ਭਾਰਤ ਲਈ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਲੋਂ ਰਫਿਊਜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਫਿਰ ਵਧ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ 1971 ਵਰਗੇ ਹਾਲਾਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਪਤਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਕਤਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਦਰਾਂ ੳੇਤੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਵੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਭਾਰਤ ਵੱਲ ਭੱਜਣ ਦੀ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਆਈ ਐਸ ਆਈ ਜਮਾਤ-ਇ- ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੀਨ ਦੇ ਅਗਲੇ ਕਦਮਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਰੱਖਣੀ ਪਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਵਿਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਖਤਰੇ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।

ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਨੇ ਚੀਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਿ ਤੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਪੱਖੀ ਜਮਾਤ-ਇ-ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਤੇ ਖਾਲਿਦਾ ਜ਼ੀਆ ਦੀ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਨੇਸ਼ਨਲ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਖਲਿਦਾ ਜ਼ੀਆ ਦੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੋਹਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਬਣਾਈ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜਮਾਤ-ਇ-ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵਿੰਗ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੜਕਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਅਰੰਭ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੇ ਰਾਖਵਾਂਕਰਣ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ।ਪਾਬੰਦੀਸ਼ੁਦਾ ਜਮਾਤ-ਏ-ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਦਾ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵਿੰਗ, ਛੱਤਰ ਸ਼ਿਬੀਰ, ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੀ ਆਈਐਸਆਈ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਭੜਕਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਦਿਤਾ। ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੀ ਫੌਜ ਅਤੇ ਆਈਐਸਆਈ ਦਾ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਥਿਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੜਕਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਬੀਐਨਪੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹਾਲ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ। ਘਟਨਾ ਚੱਕਰ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਚੱਲਿਆ:

1 ਜੁਲਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜਨਤਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਕੋਟਾ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਧਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਲਈ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਲਵੇ ਲਾਈਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਘਨ ਪਾਉਣ, ਨਾਕਾਬੰਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸਕੀਮ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੀ ਸੱਤਾਧਾਰੀ ਅਵਾਮੀ ਲੀਗ ਦੇ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਪੂਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜਨਵਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਵਾਰ ਜਿੱਤਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ, ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਰਜ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ "ਆਪਣਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।" ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਚਲਾਈ ਗਈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਲਸੇ ਜਲੂਸ ਤੋਂ ਦੰਗੇ ਵੀ ਫੈਲਾਏ ਗਏ।ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਕੋਟਾ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ 'ਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ, ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦਲੀਲ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਕਿ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਕੋਟੇ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੀ ਸੱਤਾਧਾਰੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਅਵਾਮੀ ਲੀਗ ਦੇ ਵਫਾਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਲਤ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਫਾਇਦਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਵਧਿਆ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਅਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜਿਸ 'ਤੇ ਉਹ ਤਾਨਾਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਅਭਿਆਸਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਬਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ।

16 ਜੁਲਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਤੇਜ਼ ਹੋ ਗਈ । ਢਾਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਸਮਰਥਕਾਂ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ ਝੜਪਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਛੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਨਾਲ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਵਧ ਗਈ। ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਕੂਲ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ।18 ਜੁਲਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਰਾਖਵੇਂਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੰਤੁਲਨ ਦਾ ਖੰਡਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ । ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਨੂੰ ਠੁਕਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਸਤੀਫੇ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖੀ। ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ "ਤਾਨਾਸ਼ਾਹ ਗੱਦੀ ਛੱਡੋ" ਦੇ ਨਾਅਰੇ ਲਗਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਇਮਾਰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਟੈਲੀਵਿਜ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਦਫ਼ਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਲਗਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਟ ਬਲੈਕਆਊਟ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਕਰਫਿਊ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਤਾਇਨਾਤੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਝੜਪਾਂ 'ਚ ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ 32 ਲੋਕ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਜ਼ਖਮੀ ਹੋ ਗਏ।

ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਨੇ 21 ਜੁਲਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੋਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ, ਆਲੋਚਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਠਜੋੜ ਵਜੋਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਿਆ। ਨੌਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੋਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਨ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਸੁਪਰੀਮ ਕੋਰਟ ਦੇ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੰਤੁਸ਼ਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜੋ "ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਘੁਲਾਟੀਆਂ" ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਨੌਕਰੀ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਾਖਵੇਂਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ । ਫੈਸਲੇ ਨੇ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ 1971 ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੀ ਲੜਾਈ ਤੋਂ "ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਘੁਲਾਟੀਆਂ" ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਖਵੇਂਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਅੰਸ਼ਕ ਰਿਆਇਤ ਨੇ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਨੂੰ ਦਬਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਅਸਰਕੀਤਾ ।

4 ਅਗਸਤ ਐਤਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ, ਲੱਖਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਸਮਰਥਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਫਿਰ ਝੜਪ ਹੋਈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ 14 ਪੁਲਿਸ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ 68 ਮੌਤਾਂ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ। ਸਥਿਤੀ ਉਦੋਂ ਹੋਰ ਨਾਜ਼ੁਕ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਫੌਜ ਮੁਖੀ ਜਨਰਲ ਇਕਬਾਲ ਕਰੀਮ ਭੂਈਆ ਨੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਜਿੱਠਣ ਦੀ ਆਲੋਚਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਫੌਜ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਬੁਲਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸੈਨਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਰੁਖ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਬੇਚੈਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਵਧਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ । ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਸਮੇਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਜਵਾਬ, ਬੇਚੈਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਘੱਟ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਫਲ ਰਿਹਾ। ਫੌਜ ਨੇ ਕਰਫਿਊ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਟ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਝੜਪਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ 100 ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ, ਜੋ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਵਲ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ 'ਤੇ ਕੇਂਦਰਿਤ ਸਨ, ਹੁਣ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਸਾਬਕਾ ਫੌਜ ਮੁਖੀ ਜਨਰਲ ਇਕਬਾਲ ਕਰੀਮ ਭੂਈਆ ਨੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਫੌਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਪਸ ਬੁਲਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਤਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਫੌਜ ਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਅੱਗੇ ਆੲਆ ਜਦੋਂ 60 ਰਿਟਾਇਰਡ ਫੌਜੀ ਅਫਸਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਫੌਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੁਫਾੜ ਪਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਕ ਬ੍ਰੀਗੇਡੀਅਰ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਅੱਤਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਇਸ ਦੌਫਾੜ ਪਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ । ਫਿਰ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸੈਨਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਵਕਰ-ਉਜ਼-ਜ਼ਮਾਨ ਦਾ ਪੱਖ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਇਆ ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਹਥਿਆਰਬੰਦ ਬਲ "ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਖੜੇ ਹਨ।"

ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਏ ਹਿੰਸਕ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ 400 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ।ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿੰਸਕ ਅਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਹਫ਼ਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, 5 ਅਗਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਨਾਟਕੀ ਮੋੜ ਆਇਆ ਜਦ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਚੇਤਾਵਨੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਢਾਕਾ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਹਬਾਗ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼ ਗਣਭਵਨ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਲਈ ਸਿਰਫ 45 ਮਿੰਟ ਲੱਗਣਗੇ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਛੱਡਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਬਚਾ ਹੈ । ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਛੱਡਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹੀਨਾ ਅਸਤੀਫਾ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਤਾ 'ਤੇ ਕਾਬਜ਼ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਸੀ।

ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਅਖਬਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਅਲੋ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਪੁਲਿਸ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਬਿੰਦੂ 'ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਵੀ ਹੁਣ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸਖਤ ਰੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। “ਉੱਚ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਕਤ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੁਣ ਸੰਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਪਰ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ” । ਪਰ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਟੈਂਡ ਬਦਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।“ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਫਿਰ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਕਮਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਛੋਟੀ ਭੈਣ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਰੇਹਾਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਸਮਝਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ। ਸ਼ੇਖ ਰੇਹਾਨਾ ਨੇ ਫਿਰ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸੱਤਾ 'ਤੇ ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਸੀ,। ਫਿਰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸਜੀਬ ਵਾਜੇਦ ਜੋਏ, ਜੋ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੀ, ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਜੋਏ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਫੋਨ 'ਤੇ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਅਹੁਦਾ ਛੱਡਣ ਲਈ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਦਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਉੱਚ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ 45 ਮਿੰਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਛੱਡਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ [

ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਜਾਂ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਇਰਾਦਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਜਿਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਤੋਂ ਥੋੜ ਚਿਰੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਇਜ਼ਾਜ਼ਤ ਮੰਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਫੌਜੀ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਸੀ 130 ਦੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਤਰਨ ਦੀ ਇਜ਼ਾਜ਼ਤ ਮੰਗੀ। ਇਜ਼ਾਜ਼ਤ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਸੀ 130 ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਡਨ ਹਵਾਈ ਉਤੇ ਉਤਾਰ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਿਸ਼ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਰਾਜ ਬਦਲੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ।

ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੇ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਛੱਡਣ ਪਿੱਛੋਂ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦਾ ਘਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਦਫਤਰ ਸਾੜ ਦਿਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਮੁਜੀਬ ਰਹਿਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਬੁੱਤ ਤੋੜ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੰਦਿਰ ਅਤੇ ਘਰ ਵੀ ਸਾੜੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਉਤੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੋਨਾਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਇਜ਼ਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਵਿਖ ਧੁੰਦਲਾ ਹੈ।
ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਫੌਜ ਦੀ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੁਣ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੋਬਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਈਜ਼ ਵਿਜੇਤਾ ਮੁਹੰਮਦ ਯੂਨਸ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਬਹਾਲ ਲਈ ਕਦਮ ਚੁੱਕਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ।​

ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਖਣ-ਏਸ਼ਆਈ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਵਧ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਲਈ ਵੱਡੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੈ । ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮਾਇਨਾਮਾਰ-ਬਰਮਾ, ਫਿਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਲੰਕਾ, ਫਿਰ ਮਾਲਦੀਵ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਗਾਵਤਾਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਤ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਚੈਲੇਂਜ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਸੋਚ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਲੰਬੀ ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਦੇਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਮਨਸੂਬਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਪੜੋਸੀ ਦੇਸ਼ਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਅਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਵਧਾ ਕੇ ਵਿਰੋਧੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਘਟਾਉਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ । ਇਸ ਅਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਉਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਭੀਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਚਕੇ ਨਵੀਆ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਨੀਤੀਆ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ।ਸਾਡੀ ਇੰਟੈਲੀਜੈਂਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਚੁਸਤ ਦਰਸਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਦਾ 1962, 1965, 1999, ਦੇ ਜੰਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਮਾਇਨਮਾਰ, ਸ੍ਰੀ ਲੰਕਾ, ਮਾਲਦੀਵ ਅਤੇ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੇਲ ਹੋਣਾ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਬੜਾ ਮਹਿੰਗ ਪਿਆ ਹੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੱਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੰਟੈਲੀਜੈਂਸੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡੇ ਫੇਰ ਬਦਲ ਦੀ ਵੀਲੋੜ ਹੈ।
ਸਾਡੇ ਗਵਾਂਢੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਨਿਰੀਖਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਛੌਟੇ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੇ ਮੁੱਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਭੜਕਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਪਲਟਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੱਧ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।ਹੁਣ ਬੰਗਲਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦਾ ਡਿਕਟੇਟਰ ਬਣਨ ਦਾ ਝੁਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਿਧਾ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਮਾਤ-ਇ- ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਪੱਖੀ ਜੱਥੇਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਖੂਬੀ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਅਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਗਵਾਂਢੀ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਚੀਨ ਦਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਐੱਸ ਜੈਸ਼ੰਕਰ ਨੇ ਸੰਸਦ 'ਚ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਮੁੱਦੇ 'ਤੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਜ਼ਬਰਦਸਤੀ ਅਸਤੀਫਾ ਦੇਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ "ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਘੱਟ ਨੋਟਿਸ 'ਤੇ" ਭਾਰਤ ਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਮੰਗੀ ਸੀ।
"ਪਿਛਲੇ 24 ਘੰਟਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਢਾਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਨਿਯਮਤ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜੈਸ਼ੰਕਰ, ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਰਬ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਸ੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਗਲਾ ਕਦਮ ਤੈਅ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਮਾਂ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ, ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਵੇਦਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਦਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਸ 'ਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ," ਉਸਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ।
4 ਅਗਸਤ (ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ) ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਰੂਪ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਥਾਣਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਅਦਾਰਿਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਪੁਲਿਸ 'ਤੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਤੇਜ਼ ਹੋ ਗਏ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਪੱਧਰ ਵਧੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਾਇਦਾਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਘੱਟ ਗਿਣਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰੋਬਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਦਰਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਵੀ ਕਈ ਥਾਵਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਹਮਲੇ ਹੋਏ।"
"5 ਅਗਸਤ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀ ਕਰਫਿਊ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਢਾਕਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਸਾਡੀ ਸਮਝ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਦਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇੱਕ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼ੇਖ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਅਸਤੀਫਾ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਫਲਾਈਟ ਕਲੀਅਰੈਂਸ ਲਈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਈ... ਉਹ ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਪਹੁੰਚੀ।"
ਉਸਨੇ ਬੰਗਲਾਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਫੌਜ ਮੁਖੀ ਜਨਰਲ ਵਕਰ-ਉਜ਼-ਜ਼ਮਾਨ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ - ਸ਼੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਹਸੀਨਾ ਦੇ ਅਸਤੀਫੇ ਤੋਂ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਬਾਅਦ, ਸੋਮਵਾਰ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ - ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, "ਮੈਂ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਾਂ... ਅਸੀਂ ਇੱਕ ਅੰਤਰਿਮ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ..." ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਸਕ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ।

Members of the interim government led by Noble Laureate Prof Mohammed Yunus will take over today three days after the cabinet was dissolved following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina. After sharing the information with journalists, army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman yesterday said the oath-taking ceremony is likely to be held at 8:00pm in presence of some 400 dignitaries. He hinted that the interim government may have 15 members for now. He, however, did not disclose their names and the possible tenure of the government. General Waker-Uz-Zaman hoped that normalcy would return within three to four days as the situation across the country is improving significantly. Those involved in the crimes committed over the past few days will not be spared and legal action will be taken against them, he said.
The army chief briefed the media at the Army Headquarters yesterday, two days after Hasina resigned and fled the country amid an upspring. On Tuesday night, President Mohammed Shahabuddin gave his consent to the proposal of the key student protest organisers for making Prof Yunus the interim government chief. Since then, the people waited to know when the government would take charge and bring the prevailing situation under its control. Yesterday, General Waker-Uz-Zaman said he had talked to Prof Yunus.
"I felt very good talking to him. It seemed to me that he is very eager to take up the responsibility. I'm certain that he will be successful in taking us to a democratic process, and that we will benefit from it."
General Waker-Uz-Zaman said they have discussed with political parties and protest organisers about making Prof Yunus the interim government chief. He said they talked to the president about it and made the proposal. He added that Prof Yunus will reach Bangladesh today. General Waker-Uz-Zaman hoped that Prof Yunus would get support from all political parties and students, and he would be successful in discharging his duties. "The navy chief, the air force chief and I … We all will support him," he said.
He praised students and volunteers working to maintain traffic on the city streets in the absence of traffic police and to clean different vandalised sites and requested them to continue the good work.

He said students, following his request, also worked to prevent looting and other criminal activities committed outside Dhaka. The army chief said he talked to commanders and general officers commanding (GOC) yesterday and came to know that the situation was improving significantly. He urged people not to believe any rumors involving the army.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman said work is on to revamp the police force as a new inspector general of police has already been appointed and hoped that police personnel would start performing their duties soon.
"I want to assure that the army, navy, and air force were with the people and will be with them," he said.
Responding to a query of a reporter when the interim government members can take the oath, the army chief said they were trying their best to hold the event today.
He said there was a proposal to hold the programme in the evening, but it would be tight given that Prof Yunus will reach Dhaka around 2:10pm. "In that case, we may hold the programme at 8:00pm."
When his comment was sought about the people's concern over the recent incidents of looting and vandalism, General Waker-Uz-Zaman said he has taken responsibility of all people and sought cooperation from political leaders in this regard as there were possibilities of such incidents during the transition of power.
"They [political leaders] assured me of their best possible cooperation. Even though some incidents took place and there are some reasons behind it. The situation, however, is getting normal."
He said police personnel were not on the ground and it was not possible to fill the void with the army personnel. However, the army personnel have been trying their best and they rescued thousands of people, police personnel and are guarding different important establishments like the airport, and the secretariat, said General Waker-Uz-Zaman. "I'm very sorry and embarrassed for what has taken place in the first one or two days."
Apart from army personnel, navy and air force personnel are working, he said. "We have tried our best. But still some incidents happened. It is simply because we did not have enough strength. But I'm sure when the police force gets revamped, the void will easily be filled," he said.
"But I want to say that we will try our best to bring those involved in such [criminal] activities to book," he added. Asked whether he had any plan to increase the number of the force on the ground, the army chief said, "All the personnel we have in the military have already been deployed and they are working."
Responding to another question, he said, "Politicians asked me to take the responsibility [of people's safety].
"Somebody has to take it [responsibility]. There was no one to take it and thus I shouldered the responsibility. I have to take the responsibility if there is any failure here. I have tried my best and normalcy will return within a very short time," he said.
"But we have a lot to do. Give me some more time."

The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has told Reuters that 200-300 homes, mainly those owned by Hindus, and businesses had been targeted since Monday. About 15-20 Hindu temples had been vandalised and 40-odd people injured, though not seriously, the organisation's general secretary Rana Dasgupta said
Meanwhile, a Hindu association in Bangladesh claimed that hundreds of Hindu houses, businesses and temples have been vandalised since the ouster of Sheikh Hasina.

Hindus constitute about 8 per cent of Bangladesh's 170 million people and have historically largely supported Hasina's Awami League party, which identifies as largely secular, instead of the opposition bloc that includes a hardline Islamist party.
Sheikh Hasina's plan to travel to London has hit a roadblock over some “uncertainties” and she is unlikely to move out of India for the next couple of days, media reports claimed. Hasina who landed at the Hindon airport in India on Monday ina in a C-130J military transport aircraft hours after resigning as the prime minister, has been shifted to an unspecified location under tight security.
Muhammad Yunus was appointed to lead Bangladesh's interim government by President Mohammed Shahabuddin after he held meetings with student leaders and chiefs of the three military services, local media reported late, citing a statement and officials from the president's office.
Muhammad Yunus, 84, and his Grameen Bank, a microcredit organisation, won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for work to lift millions out of poverty by granting small loans of under $100 to the rural poor of Bangladesh.
The student leaders had said they wanted Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser to the interim government and a spokesperson for Yunus said he agreed. Yunus is in Paris for a medical procedure and is expected to return to Dhaka soon.
In a disturbing incident, doctors at Joshor General Hospital confirmed they counted 24 bodies in Zabir International Hotel, while surviving hotel staff feared more bodies could be found inside the debris. This hostel was burnt by hooligans because it belonged to a close associate of Hasina
Media reports suggested unidentified mob, opposed to the Awami League (AL) regime, set the ground floor of the hotel on fire which quickly spread to the upper floors.
There were almost identical reports from across the country where the angry mob simultaneously vandalised residences and business establishments of many Awami League leaders and activists, including its central office in Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
"Our state's resources are being wasted. This country is ours; we have to build this country," Khaleda Zia said during a meeting with Maulana Mamunul Haque, secretary general of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, on Tuesday.
Neighbouring India, now sheltering Sheikh Hasina after she fled on Monday from deadly protests after 15 years in power, said what was “particularly worrying was that minorities, their businesses and temples also came under attack at multiple locations”.

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus took oath as the head of an interim government on Thursday evening — mere 3 days after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina amid deadly protests. Meanwhile, Indian remains on alert amid developments in the neighbouring country. "The Bangladeshis had gathered at the border, but none were able to enter India as the border was completely sealed. They were later taken back by the BGB," a BSF official said.
Bangladesh is undergoing an unprecedented crisis as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who had been in power for 15 years, resigned and fled the country amid escalating protests. What began as a demonstration against a jobs quota system has rapidly escalated into a massive upheaval against her and her government. Over the past few tumultuous weeks, more than 300 people have lost their lives.
BNP chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been released in a significant turn of events. Hasina arrived in India on Monday evening, but her plans regarding whether she will remain in Delhi or relocate elsewhere remain unclear.
Muhammad Yunus held a brief press conference after taking oath to laud those who had helped bring about the ‘rebirth of the nation’. “I express all my appreciation and gratitude to these young people who made it happen and who are responsible for bringing about the rebirth of the nation," he said.
He stopped to fight back tears, describing the death of an “extraordinarily brave" young man who went up against the police during the crackdown.
More than 50 noted personalities from West Bengal wrote to Bangladesh president Mohammed Shahabuddin and PM Muhammad Yunus and urged them to ensure the safety of all sections of society. Among the signatories of the letter were filmmaker Aparna Sen, educationist Pabitra Sarkar and former Supreme Court judge Ashok Ganguly.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy blamed the Pakistani intelligence agency (ISI) for fueling the ongoing unrest in the country. "I am quite certain given the circumstantial evidence; I suspect Pakistan ISI’s involvement. The attacks and protests were very coordinated, meticulously planned, and intentional efforts to keep inflaming the situation through social media. No matter what the government did to control the situation, they kept trying to worsen it," he told PTI. Sajeeb Wazed Joy said on Thursday that his mother would return to the country as soon as democracy is restored. He added that it had not yet been decided whether she will be back as a "retired or active" politician. “Yes, it is true that I had said she wouldn’t return to Bangladesh. But a lot has changed in the last two days following continuous attacks on our leaders and party workers across the country. Now we are going to do whatever it takes to keep our people safe; we are not going to leave them alone. Awami League is the largest and oldest political party in Bangladesh, so we cannot just walk away from our people. She will definitely return to Bangladesh once democracy is restored," he told PTI over the phone.

Floods wreaked more havoc in India’s northeast and neighboring Bangladesh’s eastern region, raising this week’s total death toll to 30, officials and media reports said Friday.Rain stopped in many parts of Bangladesh on Friday and weather officials in Dhaka said the waters had started receding in some areas, but said the flooding would not be over for days.
In India’s Tripura state, eight more people died in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 19 since Monday, said a state disaster management official on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to media. Earlier, 11 people were reported dead. In Bangladesh, seven more people died in the last 24 hours, Dhaka-based Ekhon TV reported Friday. Earlier, four deaths were reported in raging waters flooding downstream from India, and amid incessant rains in the country’s eastern region.

Bangladeshi non-government organization BRAC said in a statement that up to 3 million people remained stranded as fast-moving water inundated vast areas of farmland, destroying livelihoods, homes, and crops. It said many remained without electricity, food or water. Other media reports said up to 4.5 million people have been affected in the delta nation of 170 million people.

The aftermath of the political crisis in Bangladesh has once again made the Hindu community in the country a soft target. The student protest quickly became an excuse for Islamists to inflict violence against Hindus. The declining Hindu population, which was 7.95 per cent in 2022, is a clear indication of the tragic plight of the community.
Despite more than 200 attacks on religious minorities, including Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians, and damage to about 20 temples since 5 August, the intelligentsia and global news coverage have portrayed the plight of Bangladeshi Hindus as just another case of minority oppression. This oversimplification does a disservice to the victims. Each act of oppression has its own root cause and deserves to be discussed on its own merits. There is an undeniable underlying hatred toward the community, and it is crucial to understand where this sentiment stems from.

A senior Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader has blamed an 'ecosystem of former diplomats, bureaucrats, politicians, and think tanks' for creating a 'bogeyman' to mislead the Indian establishment into believing that Indo-Bangla relations would deteriorate without the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League.

Days after India raised the issue of the safety of minorities in Bangladesh, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury of the Khalida Zia-led BNP said it is an 'internal matter of the country' but maintained that Bangladesh wants strong ties with India, its next-door neighbour.
Chowdhury's party, the BNP, is an arch-rival of the Awami League (AL), headed by Hasina, who resigned and fled to India on August 5 in the wake of the massive student protests across the country.
An interim government headed by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, assumed charge on August 8 will continue till fresh elections are held. In an interview with PTI in Dhaka, Chowdhury minced no words against the 'ecosystem of former diplomats, officials, politicians, and think tanks' for misleading the Indian establishment on the 'hard reality' of Bangladesh and said this ecosystem has destroyed Indo-Bangla relations.
"This ecosystem has created a bogeyman that if there is no Awami League, there will be security-related issues for India; if there is no Sheikh Hasina, then the country would go into the hands of fundamentalists; if there is no Awami League, then the Hindus in Bangladesh would be in danger.
"This is a completely false and deliberate narrative. These people need to wake up now. Bangladesh is one of the most liberal countries; here Hindus and Muslims have lived together for ages," he said.
Across Bangladesh, the minority Hindu population has faced vandalisation of their business and properties and devastation of Hindu temples in the students' violence that ensued for days following the ouster of the Hasina government.
"There can be aberrations, but no government in Bangladesh supports attacks on its minorities. The Constitution of Bangladesh guarantees equal rights to everybody, and above all, we don't believe in this minority and majority concept. We are sorry to say this, but on the question of minorities, this is an internal matter of Bangladesh," Chowdhury said.
"How can others comment on the issue of minorities in our country? How does this come up in diplomatic relations? This is our internal matter. We never complain about what happens to Indian minorities, so no one should comment on the issue of minorities here," he told PTI.
Urging India to keep the 'baggage of the past (BNP's regime in the early 2000s) behind', Chowdhury said: "India has to understand the pulse of the people of Bangladesh. The relationship has to be with the people of Bangladesh."
"Why does New Delhi have to depend on one person or family? When it comes to Indo-Bangla relations? India has put all the eggs in one basket. That was a mistake on their part," he declared.
"You cannot change your neighbour and you should have good relations with your neighbour," he said and added Bangladesh wants the best of relations with India, as it is a neighbour.
The former commerce minister during the BNP regime accused the erstwhile Awami League regime of indulging in rampant corruption and working against the nation's interest vis-a-vis various bilateral treaties.
"As they had captured power through fraudulent elections, they had no accountability to the people of Bangladesh. They laundered over $100 billion from many mega projects and treaties, which were against the country's interests," he said.
He also underlined the need to relook 'those questionable bilateral treaties, agreements, and contracts as the truth has to come out'.
When asked if any bilateral treaty with India, which has faced criticism in Bangladesh, will be cancelled or suspended, Chowdhury, whose party BNP is tipped to be the front runner for the next elections as and when held, said: "We are not singling out India or any other country."
"But all the questionable bilateral treaties and agreements will have to be re-examined and, if needed, also reviewed. Nothing is going to be suspended or cancelled, as it is the government of the country which signs a treaty. But if it is not in the interest of Bangladesh, then it will be reviewed. This is an umbrella issue," he said.
Replying to a query about the popular perception of BNP regimes in the past not being India-friendly, Chowdhury said, "These are wrong perceptions. India has to leave the baggage of the past behind and both countries have to work together."
He also said that being vocal about his own country's interest doesn't make him anti-India.

Speaking about the ongoing 'India out' campaign, which he claimed is not a programme by any political party but by the common people of Bangladesh who see India as 'an enabler of the autocratic regime'.
"So, now in Bangladesh, it's seen as Sheikh Hasina plus India versus the people of Bangladesh. That is why there is this anger against India, as it is considered an ally of the Awami League," he said and added, "Hasina taking shelter in India is also not seen in a good light in Dhaka."
