When you clean your house... clean it as if God were going to be your special guest. Because He is.

When you prepare a meal... prepare it as if God were going to be sitting at your table. Because He is.

When you work... work as if God will be your customer. Because He is.

And when you speak with another... speak as if you were speaking with God. Because you are.

Baba Kuhi of Shiraz
Only God I Saw
In the market, in the cloister – only God I saw.
In the valley and on the mountain – only God I saw.

Him I have seen beside me oft in tribulation;
In favor and in fortune – only God I saw.

In prayer and fasting, in praise and contemplation,
In the religion of the Prophet – only God I saw.

Neither soul nor body, accident nor substance,
Qualities nor causes – only God I saw.

I opened mine eyes and by the light of his face around me
In all the eye discovered – only God I saw.

Like a candle I was melting in his fire:
Amidst the flames out flashing – only God I saw.

Myself with mine own eyes I saw most clearly,
But when I looked with God's eyes – only God I saw.

I passed away into nothingness, I vanished,
And lo, I was the All-living – only God I saw.

From a Persian ode by the eleventh-century Sufi mystic Baba Kuhi of Shiraz. The translation is from Reynold A. Nicholson, The Mystics of Islam (London: Arkana, 1989),

May This Encourage You Always

Don't spend major time with minor people.
If there are people in your life that continually disappoint you,
break promises, stomp on your dreams, too judgmental,
have different values and don't have your back during difficult times...
that is not a friend.

To have a friend, be a friend.
Sometimes in life as you grow,
your friends will either grow or go.
Surround yourself with people who reflect values,
goals interests and lifestyle.

When I think of any of my successes,
I am thankful to GOD from whom all blessings flow,
and to my family and friends that enrich my life.

Over the years my phone book has changed
because I changed for the better.
At first you think you're going to be alone,
but after a while new people show up
in your life that make your life so much sweeter
and easier to endure.

Remember what your elders used to say,
Birds of a feather flock together.
If you're an eagle, don't hang around chickens:
Chickens Can't Fly!

I asked God to take away my pain.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
Her spirit was whole, her body was only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a by-product of tribulations; it isn't granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.
I will give you life so that you may enjoy all things.

I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as he loves me.
God said... Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

The chief lesson I have learned in a long life is that the only way to make a man trustworthy is to trust him; and the surest way to make him untrustworthy is to distrust him and show your distrust.

Shhh
by john little wolf
Shhh, what's that I hear?
That disturbing sound that's in my ear,
We all hear it from time to time,
That sound that brings back memories of mind.
Shhh, listen and you may feel,
all the dreams because they were real.
Then tell me friend what is it I hear?
It is your Inner Voice that is so near...

Author Unknown

Everybody Knows:
You can't be all things to all people.
You can't do all things at once.
You can't do all things equally well.
You can't do all things better than everyone else.
Your humanity is showing just like everyone else's.

So:
You have to find out who you are, and be that.
You have to decide what comes first, and do that.
You have to discover your strengths, and use them.
You have to learn not to compete with others,
Because no one else is in the contest of *being you*.

Then:
You will have learned to accept your own uniqueness.
You will have learned to set priorities and make decisions.
You will have learned to live with your limitations.
You will have learned to give yourself the respect that is due.
And you'll be a most vital mortal.

Dare To Believe:
That you are a wonderful, unique person.
That you are a once-in-all-history event.
That it's more than a right, it's your duty, to be who you are.
That life is not a problem to solve, but a gift to cherish.
And you'll be able to stay one up on what used to get you down.

Good and evil do not befall men without reason. Heaven sends them happiness or misery according to their conduct.

My philosophy is that not only are you responsible for your life, but doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment

The Rules For Being Human

When you were born, you didn't come with an owner's manual; these guidelines make life work better.

  1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it's the only thing you are sure to keep for the rest of your life.
  2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called "Life on Planet Earth". Every person or incident is the Universal Teacher.
  3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of experimentation. "Failures" are as much a part of the process as "success."
  4. A lesson is repeated until learned. It is presented to you in various forms until you learn it -- then you can go on to the next lesson.
  5. If you don't learn easy lessons, they get harder. External problems are a precise reflection of your internal state. When you clear inner obstructions, your outside world changes. Pain is how the universe gets your attention.
  6. You will know you've learned a lesson when your actions change. Wisdom is practice. A little of something is better than a lot of nothing.
  7. "There" is no better than "here". When your "there" becomes a "here" you will simply obtain another "there" that again looks better than "here."
  8. Others are only mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another unless it reflects something you love or hate in yourself.
  9. Your life is up to you. Life provides the canvas; you do the painting. Take charge of your life --or someone else will.
  10. You always get what you want. Your subconscious rightfully determines what energies, experiences, and people you attract -- therefore, the only foolproof way to know what you want is to see what you have. There are no victims, only students.
  11. There is no right or wrong, but there are consequences. Moralizing doesn't help. Judgments only hold the patterns in place. Just do your best.
  12. Your answers lie inside you. Children need guidance from others; as we mature, we trust our hearts, where the Laws of Spirit are written. You know more than you have heard or read or been told. All you need to do is to look, listen, and trust.
  13. You will forget all this.
  14. You can remember any time you wish.

Please let us have a time of peace
when all bickering and fighting will cease.
Let us send around the world a dove
to symbolize our wish for peace and love.

Really Good Advice
rainbow_bar.gif

Remember to always say what you mean.
If you love someone, tell them.
Don't be afraid to express yourself.
Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you,
because when you decide that it's the right time it might be too late.
Seize the day. Never have regrets.
And most importantly, stay close to your friends and family,
for they have helped make you the person that you are today.
