So what does one do? Keep searching and trying until one becomes one of those who know but cannot describe.
....japjisahib is like our conscience. We cannot prove what our conscience tells us, but we know it, nevertheless. Similarly, the more you read n chew Japji Sahib the more the flavour spearmint [conscience] you begin to taste.

Explanation

Jap means, to repeat, utter, pronounce, chew, etc.

Utter what ? Pronounce what ? Repeat what ? Chew what ?

Nanak says, "repeat the name of God, remember God with every breath".

What God ?

The God that is your "conscience".

In other words, let your conscience be godly contaminated, godly orientated and godly executive in both thought and deed. Perform therefore good deeds, think therefore good thoughts and know that you are but part of the great God, Satnam.

In a nutshell, that is the premise Nanak invites humankind to adopt and aspire to and leave the rest to God. Try it !

Good luck and welcome to Spiritual Sikhi.

Ciao

My name is Gregory Merrill. No Sikh name as yet, as I have not been baptized. Lot's of experience with things Indian, but little with Sikhism proper. I have been going to Gurdwara here in Texas, USA, for a few months now, and am doing lots of research, reading, and soul-searching. Would like to connect with fellow Sikhs, especially those who still have an independent, martial spirit who entrust all to God Almighty Ik Onkaar Sat Naam, and are not running to the duplicitous dems or repubs or the unelected EU fatcats for legitimacy and immigrant welfare handouts.

I used to be involved with the Radha Soami 'living guru' cult. That's on me. But if anyone is on the fence on that issue, then contact me and I can help you get out NOW, and point you to a lot of online resources that will get you back on the good foot with the true Gurus, the true Bani, and the Eternal Lord. They're is a lot of historical and crazy insider stuff on that group that most satsangis don't know about.

On a humorous note, it seems like 2017 was a bad year for sikh fake gurus, as Gurinder in Beas has not only turned more and more into a money-grubbing Punjabi politico, but also has changed the "sant mat" teachings of his forbears into who knows what. Old disciples report they cannot believe their ears! (And most all of the other Radha Soami lineages from Soami Ji of Agra have already died out decades ago.)

Moreover, the old namdharis have just lost their aged guru, and he appointed no successor. Awkward! And the smaller group of canadian/american Sikhs surrounding 'Baba Ji' ({url not allowed}) has just recently disbanded due to the fact the the 'guru' and his appointed successor have openly confessed to not being, well, gurus. Too bad the website creator just took down his long post explaining the whole mess. It was sad but strangely entertaining...

Yes. This of course is the intent of their deception: To divert well-meaning western seekers (and Punjabi Sikhs) away from true Sikhism by posing as true Sikhs in part by keeping their hair and turban, even though NONE of their non-Punjabi disciple/robots are allowed to emulate this. I should have said, 'fake sikh fake gurus'.

The Radhasoamis say they honor all faiths, but if you read between the lines, they are VERY critical of orthodox Sikhism, which is why I stayed away from it for so many years. Their deception almost worked on me, but after many years of prayer and searching, God Himself by His pure Grace alone brought me on the true Path after a recent life-threatening illness.

If y'all haven't read it, the Radhasoami Secret History at FreeYellow is a blast and very informative. Also the former RSSB disciple and professor David Christopher Lane has some great material, especially his work with the only honest RS guru, Fakir Chand. I recommend his short book "An Unknowing Sage", which gets at the heart of this modern living guru phenomenon.

Shame that my two trips to Amritsar were colored by this heretical thinking. But I still remember the Holy Place well and hope to return there before the SFTF.

Isn't David Christopher Lane the same who disrobed Paul Twitchell who had started his own radasoami cult called Eckankar? The followers call themselves Eckists. I had interesting discussions with the honchos of their use of the name Eckankar. The cult is almost dead.

Hello, I am McKade Crandall. I'm from a rural area in Utah, in the USA. Like many in my region I was raised LDS (Mormon) but me and most of my family no longer believe in our faith. I have been struggling, it's hard to lose ones beliefs, and I have been searching for a way to reconnect with my spirituality, and in my search of many religions and lifestyles, I found Sikhism. I don't know much, and I would love to learn more, but from what I've read so far I feel like it's the right fit for me. I'm excited to learn more, and possibly connect with me local Sikh community. Thank you all in advance for helping me learn and grow. I have many questions, but I feel like I will be helped here.

Welcome to SPN,

Sikhi is an internal manifestation rather than the external impositions as in other religions. The former lets you find the path that you can pave for your own betterment.
We here will do our best to help you with the markers. Please read different articles here and ask us any questions you may have.
Regards

That is precisely what I love about Sikhism, thank you for your reply and your support. I've made an attempt to reach out to my local community in Utah, so hopefully soon I will be able to learn from them. In the meantime, how should I go about obtaining the scripture? And do I need to learn Punjabi? I would be willing, I have a deep love for learning languages. Hopefully with the answers to these questions, and meeting my local community, i will be able to learn much more and take the next steps in living a more Sikh lifestyle.

Here are the scriptures with the translation which is much to be desired for but I will leave the latter on you.

Hello all, I've been searching online for quite some time on forums that raise good questions AND even the critical/difficult questions that Sikhs/Punjabis might find not so nice. I was formally checking out sikhsangat.com but felt the users on their site were little immature, rude, and just biased (not to my topics/questions) but to others in general. I am hoping this site will provide some clarity towards my own personal journey.
I guess you can call me a sikh, (not amrithari) but have had kesh since childhood. And just been a casual follower of Sikhi (going to gurdwara, listening to kirtan, etc) But for last few years, my thought process on life, religion, and the world has started to evolve. I've met many different people through my jobs, with different religions, different financial backgrounds, sexuality, beliefs, etc. So got me thinking on where do I stand with my own identity and religion. How much do I know and how much of it do I believe. I guess you can say with age comes wisdom, but guess we shall see. I do find myself lately towards atheism these days, and looking forward to having proper discussions with this group.
