ਗਉੜੀ ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
Ga▫oṛī sukẖmanī mėhlā 5.
Guru Arjun Dev ji in Raag Gaurhi “Sukhmani”, bliss to mind.​

ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
Salok.
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
With blessing of one eternal creator esteemed teacher.
ਆਦਿ ਗੁਰਏ ਨਮਹ ॥ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਗੁਰਏ ਨਮਹ ॥
Āḏ gur▫e namah. Jugāḏ gur▫e namah.
Respects to the greatest creator originator of all. Respects to the creator of many millennia.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਏ ਨਮਹ ॥ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰਦੇਵਏ ਨਮਹ ॥੧॥
Saṯgur▫e namah. Sarī gurḏev▫e namah. ||1||
Respects to the eternal truth creator. Respects to the respectful divine creator.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤੇ ॥ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਪਤਿਵੰਤੇ ॥

Parabẖ ka▫o simrahi se ḏẖanvanṯe. Parabẖ ka▫o simrahi se paṯivanṯe.

Those who seek understanding of the creator, they are wealthy. Those who seek understanding of the creator, are honorable.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਨ ॥ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ॥

Parabẖ ka▫o simrahi se jan parvān. Parabẖ ka▫o simrahi se purakẖ parḏẖān.

Those who seek understanding of the creator, are accepted by all. Those who seek understanding of the creator, become the best of all

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸਿ ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੇ ॥ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸਿ ਸਰਬ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ॥

Parabẖ ka▫o simrahi sė bemuhṯāje. Parabẖ ka▫o simrahi sė sarab ke rāje.

Those who seek understanding of the creator, become carefree. Those who seek understanding of the creator, become like a king of all

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸੇ ਸੁਖਵਾਸੀ ॥ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥

Parabẖ ka▫o simrahi se sukẖvāsī. Parabẖ ka▫o simrahi saḏā abẖināsī.

Those who seek understanding of the creator, they live in comfort. Those who seek understanding of the creator, realize immortality.

ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਜਿਨ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਮੰਗੈ ਰਵਾਲਾ ॥੫॥

Simran ṯe lāge jin āp ḏa▫i▫ālā. Nānak jan kī mangai ravālā. ||5||

Only those seek understanding that creator so blesses. Humble Guru Nanak seeks dust from under the feet of such.​

ESSENCE: Guru ji in the salok first offer respects to the creator as originator, time immemorial, truth and divine.

In this Fifth Shabad of First Astpadi, Guru ji speak of virtues of those seeking creator’s understanding. Such are so wealthy, honorable, accepted, leaders, carefree, rulers, comfortable and out of cycle of birth and death. Guru ji again says such comes from blessing of creator and Guru ji so humbled by such people.

This again re-emphasises the true meaning of Simran which is neither parroting nor chanting but understanding and putting the message into practice.

It is not just reading the recipe book and memorising how the dish is made. It is about collecting all the ingredients to make the dish so it can be shared with others.

One more thing it shows us is that how doing the above one not only seeks the Nirbhau, Nirvair Ik Ong Kaar but how one lives like one.
