Different faiths have different Mantras.I think Sikhs have the smallest Mantra as HARi NAAMu.
HARi NAAmu mantra is stated to be mantra of ages and all mantras ultimately call for this mantra only..

Chanting mantras is good
they awaken chakras
some mantras are more powerful then others
I think one should practise and see what affect they
have on body.
The Gayatri mantra is excellent chanted by Bhuddist and Sufis as well.

In the posts it is rightly said sheinvokes the elements of creation good post
its not only Hindu mantra she belongs to everyone

Amarjit singh bamrah would agree more than 110% with this...!!! can almost see a mirror image of him....

All the CHAKRAS function perfectly already in tune with the Mantra of the Creator. Thus there is no need to distyrb the functioning of these CHAKRAS .

SAT SRI AKAAL,

Without understanding and realization through common senses

all words are FANCY to mind.

The precious jewel is "Objective" behind word which one can realize through "Subjective" reading.

Fancy of WORD "MANTRA" without understanding.

or

Precious word "MANTRA" with understanding.

"GURU's BANI" and each written word is precious to "SIKH"

What understanding is required for A SINGLE WORD MANTRA?
Rather this needs to be understood.
A Single WORD mantra is such a SUPERB WORD which does not require any understanding .It only requires to be seated within the Heart Beats.
So even an uneducated person can be graced thru such Mantra.

SAT SRI AKAAL,

If one's mind has understood, it is simple.

But to get understanding of one word, many are running pillar to post.

Problem is problem till one is not having understanding of problem, as soon as one one have understanding of problem, solution is there within. There are only

five chakras of common man,
five Senses to the understanding of common man
five dominant organs inside human body how one can leave, but only have right to balance, if one understands (reproductive/ digestive/ immunity/ circulatory/ operative)

root problems comes from five, solution is with in five.

Leaving the origins, one gains formal knowledge and earn livelihood.

Without understanding of basics,
one may acquire any knowledge, any position, any wealth, any........thing

Mind will not be satisfied but always be tempted.

Resolve five one can move ahead,

there are much (more senses, more to see, more to listen, more to observe more to seek)

more to live, leaving the past life, entering new life.

People goes to Dera's Baba's to define/understand the problems of there own mind.

Physically one can reflect self and improve by looking mirror.

But how/who will reflect on one's mind and reflect for correction/improvement.

Do Sikhs remember HARi NAAMu the Gurmati way?
Many Sikhs would consider as being Known Hindu even by saying HARi NAAMu. remenbering is set aside altogether.

Not really jios..only those who DONT KNOW the difference between Hindu and Gurmatt...to a child..the reflection of light from an ordinary glass bead is indistinguishable from the gleam of light emanating form a kohinoor heera..a diamond....One Har is a Diamond..the other a glass bead...one har is Hindu..the other HAR is Gurmatt... Those who KNOW the difference go with the Gurmatt HAR..the one in SGGS...

There is a Guru Harkishan Ji in Gurmatt..there is a Krishan in Mahabharta...the two are not one and the same...there is a GURU ARJAN in Gurmatt..there is another Arjun in Mahabharta..they are NOT the same...

Dont get me wrong..I am NOT denigrating anyone...to a Genuine HINDU..his har, his krishan, his arjun are diamonds...BUT not to a Gurmatt oriented SIKH...its really that simple..

In Gurbanee we do find that HARi NAAMu is LIKE DIAMOND.
Again we have RAM NAAMu. Are HARi NAAMu and RAM NAAMu two different NAAM.
Then we have HARi NAAMA and RAM NAAMA too.
How NAAMu is different from NAAMA?
The importance is of A specific SINGLE WORD <HARi.HARi> which is same for all these references.

From Gurbanee it is clear that PRAHLAD lived for this HARi NAAMu/RAM NAAMu as <HARi HARi >only.

All Bhagats and All GuRu refer to this HARi NAAMu /RAM NAAMu as <HARi.HARi> only.

From Gurbanee one can observe this but this NAAMu will be confirmed in ones mind by SATi GuRu only.

Sat Sri Akaal,

In yesterday's evening congregation shabad recited was

akhar likhay say-ee gaavaa avar na jaanaa banee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I sing the Word which You have written; I do not know any other Word. ||1||Pause||

To mind it reflected

that from union of alphabets came words,

and I know only to sing union of alphabets,

but not the essence of GURU's BANI.

So

Raam Naamu

Hari Naamu

Jonee's .......

Reflection or connection of words doesn't appear to my mind

and

my five senses cannot coonect to these words.

This NAAMu is not at all meant for five senses and even not for the mind.
The SINGLE WORD is for Munn which has the same FORM as that of CREATOR..
Munn is not a physical part of the body.Still it is most VITAL controller of the Body.
From Gurbanee we can learnas
"Jinko Munn Ki Parteeti Nahee Se Kiya KaThe Giyane" VAR Raagu Sorathi

The message of the Quote is similar as in

A quote from Raagu Ramkalee

"Jaisaa Likhat Likhiya Dhur Karate Hum Taisee Kirati Kama-ee

Mere Munn SatiGuR Sew Sukh Ho-ee"

It is the message of Gurbanee that requires understanding.
A lime constituting mantra also requires understanding but
A SINGLE WORD MANTRA like HARi NAAMu/RAM NAAMu does not require any understanding.

Veer Prakash.S.Bagga ji there is no "Jantar Mantar" on the traditional sense understood by a man in the street in India.

What I mean is the following,

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cV3g4RUD7-g?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" height="360" width="640"></object>

Whether you relate it to "Munn" or other part and start calling it the creator is simply mis-leading. I really suggest that your good self refrain from such as you know better. I was happy to learn that your other pet project of Grammar ramblings and creating confusion is over.

Sat Sri Akal.

We can look this quote from SGGS as
<TABLE cellSpacing=5><TBODY><TR><TD>ਬਾਜੀਗਰਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਾਈ

Bājīgar jaise bājī pā▫ī.

The actor stages the play,

</TD></TR><TR><TD>ਨਾਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਭੇਖ ਦਿਖਲਾਈ

playing the many characters in different costumes;

सांगु उतारि थम्हिओ पासारा ॥

Sāʼng uṯār thamiĥa▫o pāsārā.

but when the play ends, he takes off the costumes,

</TD></TR><TR><TD>ਤਬ ਏਕੋ ਏਕੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

and then he is one, and only one. ||1||
