Gurfateh,
Despite the fact that certain contents of the DG are downright appalling it seems that we decide what we will choose to support (the deh shiva stanzas) and what to disregard (the pages Harry
Haller Veer ji posted). Herein lies the double standard, Gurbani is intended to be the simplest possible way to connect to Akal Purakh and I have never been left confused or irritated after reading or listening to Gurbani, as I was when reading the excerpts of the DG posted by Harry Veer Ji.
Gurbani is the basic arithmetic that sustains our understanding of how to live our lives, it was written in the easiest possible way so everyone could understand it, and has never been refuted. This is what the DG fails to do, it does not have a central thesis, although there exist some insightful passages, it reads without the methodical organization of the SGG SAHIB, and works in opposition of earlier established tenants of the faith.
As earlier questioned by Kanwaljit Veer Ji and Harry Haller Ji, the claim made in the cited stanza where God questions the forethought of creating humans because he is unable to understand them seems completely retrograde to all we have learned about Akal Purakh and the creation.in SGGS JI.
With respect to the several sants ans parcharaks referenced earlier on, yes most of these people are valued contributors to spreading knowledge however we must consider we are all humans and therefore are not 100 percetn precise in all we say or do, we are bound to make mistakes, this is an innately human quality. So I take what every parcharak says with a grain of salt because each has their own beliefs and interpretations of the SGG SAHIB JI. However great a person may be at doing Gurbani analysis, their interpretation is never as solid or correct as the words in the SGGS JI. I'm going to leave the teaching to our greatest teacher SGGS JI and let Akal Purakh judge on his own accord if I was right or wrong not to read/follow the DG. At the end of the day, as long as I follow the path set out in the SGGS JI, I live without fear and able to sleep well at night.
